And why are some people so good at it? You have to tell another lie to cover for your first lie, it just never stops!!

My ex-husband does it all the time, I like to say ''half of what he says is a lie and you can't believe the other half". I've never understood it. To me it's rediculous, I'd get a head ache just trying to keep up. Because you'd have to always, always remember who you told what. If you told two different people different things, you'd have to keep track, and it'd just keep getting bigget and bigger. How could anybody remember all of it.
Oh yeah, he ain't good at it either, and every time he tells our kids a lie I call him and just say one sentence " It's gonna catch up to you"

why do they lie, I think some people just are born that way, or were insecure as a child so they told lies so it stuck.

People lie for many reasons often to further goals, sometimes to project a desired image. There are thousands of reasons to lie.
The only reason not to lie is that it makes the world a kinder and more pleasant place to live in in every way .
Unfortunately lying is easy.
The good news is that a 100% accurate portable lie detector is now being manufactured I am told.
If that scares you good if not even better too.

People lie to cover up their own insecurities about themselves. they think that if they tell a lie, it will make them appear better than they really are, and the continuous strain of lies is to continually make themselves look even better, and to prevent themselves from being caught in their first lie. Some people are so good at it because they have had years of experience doing so, and some just because they have told themselves the lie long enough that they actually start to believe it themselves, thus it becomes a mental trick where it is actually "the truth."

Some are pathological liars. they don't want to but some inner force compells them to do it. They lie about stuff that doesn't matter that they or no one else cares about. To be someone there not, maybe because they wish it could be different.
They create this illusion of themselves and make a dream world and then that is where they live.
these same forces is called created writing. Or genius who created whole worlds and make a movie out of it.
Leave it to beaver was not a real family. It was an illusionary family. It is said the most creative people are liars.
Then they make it into a movie

from a psychological point of view it seems that kids from about 3 years instinctively know that a lie can be conducive to advantage. An interesting test was done with kids. Put one in a room with a teacher and a box, the teacher has to leave and tells the kid not to peek in the box. Of course the kid can't resist and has a look but denies it when the teacher comes back. Seems that they know that if they will get in trouble for peeking, they might not if they lie and get away with it.

Excellent question . . . the problem is there probably would be enough space on the Internet for all the possible reasons for lying to be explored.
- to get gain
- to make people feel good
- to escape the consequences of an action
- to escape the responsibility of an action
- just because they can
- just to see how gullible someone is
- because they can't face the truth
- because they told a slight lie to the point it becomes reality
- to gain control over someone
- because they don't know the truth, but have to invent something to make the situation make sense

To get away with whatever you're being accused of. I am a liar. But guess what...ALL humans are liars. It's a fact of life, but some people are so good at lying becuase their entire life is nothing but a lie. If you can find my dad you'll see the perfect example. I don't even call him my dad anymore becuase he only comes around when he needs something. So I take my mother's terms...he's just a sperm donor HAHA.

If its a problem with that person maybe they don't want you to know how they really feel. Such as, you ask them whats wrong? and they answer nothing, there are times you need to give them some space. They might be depressed about something and need some time alone to reflect the problem.
