Over time, yes it will deteriorate. Eventually, when the battery is completely dead, you will have to send the iPod to Apple to have the battery replaced.

i have the same ipod. if you keep charging the ipod only like half and dont charge it fully, then its "capactiy" goes down, meaning that its battery life can go down permanently lik it did with ur phone, so try to charge it only wen its battery is really low to avoid that. however, on the apple website it says that the ipods battery life wont go that down even if you keep charging it when it has enuf battery life. here ill copy and paste it:
Charge Cycles
A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 400 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.
so basically, ur ipod shuld last bout 10 hours afta one year, but it can reduce slightly. lol hoped dat helped.

batteries will lose capacity over time, but the ipod uses lithium batteries and it will recharge many times without too much reduction, the best thing to do is follow the instructions to the letter for longest life because this type of battery is expensive to replace.

Always let your batteries die before you recharge them the first time. People say you don't have to do that anymore but you still should if you are smart.
