What would happen then?

I always hear Republicans complaining about them... but then there would be a severe shortage of jobs for them... and there would also be a severe shorage of people to do basic tasks like trash collection...

The truth is... if everyone was able to do as you Republicans constantly cry about... it wouldn't work... the economy feeds on these people and then you constanly insult the very people that do all the actual physical labor...

You're basically crying about and insulting your meal tickets.. typical...

hotrod9230: haven't you ever been in a REAL office... real life... and seen the guy that works twice as hard as everyone and doesn't get anywhere because the boss knows he's doing all the work... why promote him when you can get him to do all the work?

he keeps working hard thinking the boss will notice... well the boss did and that's why he's not going anywhere...

that's reality... you're little "hard work always gets rewarded" routine is the fairy tale in this situation...

nice job of trying to change the subject

hotrod9230: So it's ok for that one company to do that? See that's the problem... you guys always make excuses for what are actually "immoral" actions by businesses... when they all do the same thing...

is the guy just suppose to change work every 3 years when he realizes all the places are the same?

God forbid he enjoy his job or enjoy the area he lives... because he would obviously have to move... most likely again and again...

but that's right... I forgot... businesses can do no wrong and we should all bend over backwards and take everything they dish out and if we don't like it... we should change...

Yep, we'd have a lot of lawyers and doctors flippin burgers at Micki D's.. I don't get that either, they act like everyone can be a millionare if they just put in a little effort. Seems a dreamworld to me, maybe their still living in the "American dream"..Which does not exist anymore..

hotrod9230- Come to the city often??? Where are all these retarded people gonna come from?? I've got bout 20 fast food restaurants in a 2 mile radius..

ok, see that.. I don't understand the original point though.. If all the people that are working at Mcdonald's now, instead went to college and got degree's.. Which jobs will they fill with all those degrees??

G- Now your describing my life.. haha

hotrod- In response to your response to G.. I did exactly that, quit a good job because of not advancing after doing 3 times the work as brownosers who did advance. I'm facing the same problems all over again. I just need to learn that hard work doesn't pay, I have to brown nose. I'm not comfortable doing that though..

I'm never going to stop trying.. All I want right now is the benefits so I can go to school to advance within the company. Hopefully that will be soon.. Thanks..

Well, I don't know about the Republicans, but when I complain about "lazy, poor people" I refer to the ones who stay on welfare for several years, have four kids by four different fathers while they're on it, and then talk about how much they hate those "rich Republicans."
The thing is, if people used those menial jobs as stepping stones, but got an education, they could at least earn enough money to make ends meet. It would also help if they didn't have six kids.
I've seen first-hand what some of those "poor, lazy" people do when they're on welfare. There is no excuse for them. And there's no excuse for a person who screams "discrimination!" while not even working to better themselves.
A person's upbringing has nothing to do with it. Don't believe me? I'd love to tell you about my dad then.
I don't insult those who work at minimum wage jobs, I've pulled my fair share of those too. However, if they work at those places and then think that they should get a $250,000 house and a BMW from the government, then that's a problem.

the low level jobs would be a stepping stone, rather than a career for some people, young workers with no previous experience have to start somewhere, also college students will need part time flexible jobs, especially if there are more college students. in addition however, there will always be substance abuse, addiction, mental illness, retardation, and other things to keep an ample supply of workers for menial labor jobs.

typical liberal, using hypothetical situations to make a point, rather than reality

and this "living wage" crap. why are you people so eager to settle for mediocrity. if you are only capable of performing minimum wage labor, than what the hell are you doing having children you cant afford, and smoking cigs and drinking beer?

think harder

jamie s- what about high school kids, college students, older retired people who want to get out and be social, or make some extra money because they did not save well for retirement

in response to the guy who works 2x harder and stays there because he is too hard to replace....
that is his own fault for not finding another job. it is one thing to be a good worker, but you are merely a sheep or a pawn if you cannot think for yourself and see the bigger picture. if the guy works 2x harder without promotion, he should realize it and seek out other work from an employer who will respect his work ethic. that is the beauty of liberty and a free market society like ours.

liberals always want to blame others...instead, try looking within for answers. if the hard worker did that, then he would find a better job and be better off.

once graduated, the fast food employees move onto better jobs more suited to their education and the incoming fresman take their places. an ever-evolving cycle.

think of it like this. unskilled jobs are getting filled by illegals. is it because there are not enough workers, or is it because we have a welfare system that rewards people for babies, and too many people who feel they are 'too good' for certain types of work. furthermore, there are never going to be a shortage of skilled jobs. we dont have enough skilled workers now and that is why we are having to outsource overseas.

life is a constant struggle. i have not been unemployed longer than 3 weeks since i was 15. i have been fired, i have worked 3 jobs at a time, i have paid my way through college and graduated with my first bachelors degree, i am saving up for law school now. i have not worked less than 45 hours a week or less than 2 jobs at a time in the last 3 years. i am 26 years old, and i am hopeful, intelligent, and positive. that is worth something. if you are not advancing in your current line of work, think of changing it to something that better suits you or your goals. think of ways that your job or your skills could be used in a different setting or different career and pursue that. good luck.

you cant change THE world, but you can change YOUR world. rather than focusing on what other people are doing wrong, focus on what you are doing right. that is what i mean. there is that prayer that goes something like... grant me the strength to change the things i can, the serenity to accept the things which i cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference between the two.

you dont get rich by how much you earn, you get rich by how much you save. i will bet that you smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, and probably have children you cannot afford. you may even have a fishing boat, a big tv, a loud stereo, you obviously have a computer. your belief in predestination and that wealth is not earned but given is wrong. the rich keep getting richer because the keep doing the things that got them rich. the poor keep getting poorer because they keep doing the things that got them poor.

your current situation is the cumulative result of all of the decisions you have made thus far in life.

i believe that people should maximize their abilities. if you are an addict or retarded, but capable of better than minimum wage jobs, then great! however many of those in the groups i mentioned above are just not capable. i am speaking in generalizations, but there are always exceptions to the rule. think outside the box.

Just because a person is poor that automatically makes them lazy? Is this what rich people think? Well I have a rude awakening for them. Rich people, you think you are rich because of how smart and hard working you are. Well it doesn't work that way. Only by the grace of God you are rich. And God can take that away just as quickly as he gave it. I'm not one of the religious people, it's just a fact of life. I have worked hard all of my life and still just as poor as the day I was born. That's just the way it is. I was born poor and I'm probably going to die poor. So what, its just a life.

Excuse me! I think it was hotrod that said "there will always be plenty of substance abuse, mental illness, mental retardation, etc. and therefore, plenty of workers for menial jobs ..."

I know many of these same people with multiple degrees and lots of skills ... are you implying these people should be stuck doing the menial jobs for minimum wage? I'm glad you are not in charge of hiring in this community.

I tend to find that the ones who whine about not getting paid enough or crying about corporations are also the ones with the worst work ethic....you get out of everything what you put into it.
