WE ARE A CHINESE COLONY> we send them raw material they make finished products sell it back to us. Just like when we were an English colony.

oops - 'ugly' + 'cheap' = 'bad taste' * 'profit margin'.
A bargain is only a bargain when you dont realize you are getting ripped off...
and IKEA's stuff isn't that good unless you buy the top priced items. Dont get me started on the missing parts in low range IKEA kits. Those bags of hardware are weighed to ensure they are 'full' so good luck on what you may or may not find included.
Home Depot - Ok for some things. Lowe's - I dont deal with them. Rona/Revy is pretty good overall.

i worked at the home depot for 3 years and Lowe's for 2years and 6 months. i have learned a great deal from both. they both have buyers that try to guess what the consumer will want. when they get a product which is monitored by the computer from start to finish that determines the future of that product .i understand exactly what you mean because i worked construction long before i went retail where you do not have a life. bottom line, bottom line,if you want to build something go to home depot and you had better know what you want because nobodys going to help you. if you are decorating, the go to Lowe's and if you want quality then they can order it for you, but its gonna cost you. my last job was Lowe's but no more because all they want now is people to unload trucks, stock, down stock, let the customer wait on their self and check them selfs out. sad but now i am back on my tools.wished i Had more time to ex plane, because i know exactly what you are saking.

because a lot of people like the items that remind them "of simplier times and places" .. that "Fake country" as you called it and can't afford or like the look of modern at IKEA..
North americans are more traditional in tastes than say Europe and that's why Lowes and Home Deposit sell for

Because that is what the general public that shop at those stores are looking for! They have to deal in what sells!! Little do they know that if they carried it, it would sell!

Every store has it's customers. Why you bother to go to those stores if you don't like the products they sell.
