I think it is possible for Notre Dame to be in the top 5 come bowl time, but I truly don't believe that it will happen. Notre Dame has a tremendous offense led by possibly the best quarterback in the country in Brady Quinn and a top three receiver in Jeff Smirdizia and they should be able to put up enough points to keep them in every game this season. However the defense definitely has its flaws as it has trouble generating a pass rush and has average cornerbacks so they will have trouble stopping teams. Notre Dame was exposed by a far superior Ohio State team last year in the Fiesta Bowl and as a team is not athletic or talented enough yet to seriously challenge for the national championship. While I think Notre Dame could potenially beat any team on their schedule, I think there defense is too inconsistent and will cost them a few games during the season. Another contributing factor that will hurt Notre Dame's final ranking is the fact that their final game of the regular season is at USC, which has defeated Notre Dame four straight times.

i am not i big notre dame fan but they do have the talent to go all the way this year. even if they do hit a road bump along they way i believe when the season is over they will still be in the top 5.

Overrated Notre Dame, hell no. Ever notice that when they play real teams they get killed.
And next year they only return 4 starters. It's over for one of the dirtiest programs in football. Read under the tarnished dome.

Brady Quinn is a good quarterback and they have a very talented team, although the lost Samarja (dont know how to spell it) will be key I think they definatly will be in the top 5!
