Don't go party everynight and skip class. If you do that then you're in for a lot of "F"s and repeating classes. Not to mention you've wasted a lot of money.
I found the best way to get through college was to set a routine for myself. I also took all my classes during the day (like 8 or 9am until like noon or 1pm). This way you won't go back to your dorm, apt, etc. and be tempted to not go to your next class! Also, don't go out and eat a lot...you don't want to gain that weight like others! :) Good luck!! :)

Don't go overboard taking on too many hours of study. I'd suggest going for 4 to 6 ( the latter pushes the envelope ) during your first semester.
First time entry into college can be overwhelming; don't be too distracted with it's night time extra cirricular activites. Studies first, THEN party ( in MODERATION ).
Hang out with serious focused students--maybe try to arrange a circle of friends in difficulut classes and form a study group, to help each other along.
Frats / sororities: really great people I knew in both; it just wasn't my bag.
If you have to work on the side, try NOT to let it exhaust you or interfere with your studies. There are some great student assistance programs out there.....the trick is taking the effort to really dig deep and find them. You'd be surprised what's out there for the offering---but few do because they're rarely discovered.
Buy a really good digital voice recorder; one can be a real pal in class during those long ( and boring ) class lectures. Digital recorders now can record up to 5 hours.
For the ladies (and guys, too) I advocate taking up some free self-defense classes and learing the tips on personal safety. College campuses are large--and even larger at night, when the pervs and creeps tend to wander about.

I agree, don't skip classes! It can really set you back and screw you up. Plus, a professor might notice if you're always m.i.a and it will affect his decisions wif you have to ask for special considerations or extensions.
Oh! if you are dorming, and you're a light sleeper, you definitely should invest in a pair of ear muffs (the kinds they wear at gun ranges). My freshmen year, there were always drunk people making noise and coupled fighting and i couldnt sleep the first few weeks. Amazon.com has good ones make sure they're rated at least 30 decibles

study your syllabus for each classification thoroughly. Pay close interest to attendance/lateness rules! keep in mind that if definitely everyone else does not happen to classification, they're going to easily have greater artwork to do to pass the class. (They do this at the two faculties i've got attended. some human beings have failed each and each classification i've got been in with an attendance coverage.) choose for friends which will build you up no longer tear you down no remember what you establish to do. "Make new friends and shop the previous." you will desire to stay in touch with your suitable friends from severe college. Make straightforward time table each and each week to budget it slow for analyzing classes and a social life.

Going to the orientation helps. Find friends this helps a lot because many people are going through the same thing or have gone through the same thing. Just study as much as you can.

Limit your partying. Keep up with assignments. Don't let them pile up. Ask questions when you don't understand something. Ask for some tutoring if you are really having trouble. Good Luck!

Keep up your discpline in education. You will learn real fast that they really don't care if you do the work or not...as long as they get tuition. So if not careful you can get yourself into a nasty downward sprial.
