Have you seen this? Republicans only want to increase the minimum wage if we allow huge tax cuts for millionaires!!! Doesn't this only make stratification much worse (or at least the same) instead of decreasing it like it is supposed to? Won't inflation shoot through the roof??? This is an absolute INSULT to poor Americans!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican leaders are willing to allow the first minimum wage increase in a decade but only if it's coupled with a cut in future inheritance taxes on multimillion-dollar estates, congressional aides said Friday.

Well this does not suprise me. The Republicans have always been about making the rich richer and the poor poorer. I don't know about the rest of you folks but my wallet was a lot fatter when Clinton was in office.

Well, don't you want the minimum wage increased? Why would you care if the rich got tax cuts? I don't think it would affect inflation. And what is wrong with "stratification" as long as people make a "living wage" (whatever that is...)?

Wouldn't it make the rich AND the poor "richer"?

Some Democrat congressman just recently pointed out that if the minimum wage kept pace with the raises corporate executives get, the minimum wage would be $23 and hour. So why aren't the Democrats pushing for an increase in the minimum wage to at LEAST $23 an hour?

The fact is, the Dems are just using the issue to tug at people's heartstrings. It's the same drivel we've come to expect from them. They want POWER, and for that they need VOTES, and they need to BUY those votes, because they know of no other way of winning an election.

Speedfreak is right on.

Many Democrats like to view tax issues like they're black & white. They are quick to point out a tax break for the rich, and quick to point out opposition to the minimum wage increase. The truth is, there's a lot of grey regarding both issues that you don't hear from the left, either because they're ignoring it or many are oblivious to it.

Since the first major tax cuts have taken effect after Bush came into office inheriting a recession, the economy has been on an upswing. This is exactly what Bush Sr. did. The only difference is that Bush Sr. wasn't in office long enough to see the benefits, and Clinton took all the credit.

People, changes in tax rates take years, sometimes 5 or more, to have any real impact. The Federal Reserve has raised the prime interest rate consistently over the last year or so. Unemployment is low. The economy is steam-rolling ahead again like it started too in 1995. I refuse to buy the bolony coming from the left that tax cuts are bad. There is no evidence to support it.

Back to the issue...

Estate taxes are a wicked loophole resulting in double taxation. It's in the interest of many middle-class Americans to have it reformed or lifted altogether. Farmers and small business owners are among the most impacted by it.

Republicans are coupling the two issues together in the House because they know it's the only way it will pass in the Senate. Dividing the issues into separate bills will result in neither of them passing, since both parties will pander to their base. It seems fair to me.

Anything else is pure conjecture...

Nobody works for minimum wage anyway, (and those who do, don't do so for long) it's all a sham.

Question: who is the #1 lobbiest to raise the minimum wage?
Answer: the Unions

Question: Why are the Unions so concerned about the minimum wage, when all union workers make at least 3 times the minimum wage?
Answer: The union contracts say," if the minimum wage goes up, union pay goes up at the same rate". In other words, if a floor sweeper makes 21 dollars per hour, he will now make 22 dollars per hour if minimum wage goes up by a dollar.

Question: who does raising the minimum wage help?
Answer: the union worker, noone else.

Guess you know very little about tax policy.

Were you aware that since the devastating "tax cuts for ther rich," federal tax revenues have increased by double digit rates?

I did not think so.

What do poor Americans have to do with those who pay the taxes, other than having assistance for them primarily paid for by those earning the most money. They should want the wealthy to make more. Everybody wins.

Libs will never accept that, even if the evidence were presented on a silver platter.

Should the Government be allowed to consistently retax peoples money? How about after you get done paying taxes on your income the federal government taxes the rest when you die....that doesn't exactly make sense does it.....the government should only tax your money once.

Minimum wage hits the middle class more than anything because it will hit the small businesses in this country.

There are just as many rich democrats in this world as republicans.....I don't see any of those democrats willing to give more money to the government though.

Who do you think pays the minimum wage workers? Let me give you a hint, not the bums on the street in welfare lines and not other minimum wage workers ... THE MILLIONAIRES PAY! It takes large tax cuts to "the rich", in order to pay for minimum wag increases.

The real insult is from liberals who are saying to the unskilled workers: "it's OK if you make nothing of yourself, keep voting us into office and we will guarantee you a minimum wage for these dead end jobs."

That's actually not true. They don't wan the tax cut, they want the raise in the minimum wage to fail. I'm no economist, so I can't comment on the impact of a raise in the minimum wage. I'd image nothing.

yes... if they really "cared about the effect of the minimum wage increase on the middle class" they wouldn't bargain with it with tax cuts to the rich...

why do Republicans always support bills that help the wealthy?

tipping their hand even more than usual...

MEL T: so what if the Dems called their bluff and passed it anyway?

Yes and I can't stand it!! Man that pisses me off, this is obviously just dirty politics. The dems will be forced to vote against their greedy bill and leave themselves open for attack in the future when the reps accuse them of not supporting the poor.
What a bunch of greedy assholes!!!
