My son ....

the last 3 days has been spitting up a large amount of milk after he is finished eating. Today it hasn't been as bad. Tue & Wed we would go through two burp clothes or a recieving blanket and 2 outfits every feeding. It seemed like it was more of a forceful spitup like vomiting. It came up like someone who would be vomiting. He's been eating more often (another growth spurt) and has been having only 2 or 3 large bowel movements daily and they're like explosions when he does. They come out foaming or bubbling ( happened when i was changing his diaper).

He sweated like crazy where he was wet to the touch yesterday evening and Tuesday evening. I have been trying my best to keep him cool. Even have given him cool bath's. His soft spot also seems more sunken in than it has been ever the last 3 days too. Like I just feel his skul and when my fingers run over the middle of it my fingers sink into his soft spot.

I asked my mom about it and she said to just watch him. My husband thinks I am being paranoid. I have no vehicle .. he took the car to work (he's shipping out soon so our 2nd vehicle is in my hometown).

Peyton also won't take bottles really. I have trouble giving them to him. He won't take them from my husband either so we can't give him water during the day to drink.

I guess what I am asking is ... what are signs of dehydration????

oh .. he has a wet diaper everytime I change him which is over 10 times a day.

Any thoughts would be a great help!

About his 10 wet diapers. I know its normal. I was just stating that so you could know he's voiding normally.

He is a breastfed baby. He's also sweating and clammy again. He's always sleeping and falls asleep on the breast within 10 minutes.

He may have a virus. In this case, just watching him is your best bet. Signs of dehydration include dry mouth and/or eyes, lethargy, weak cry, sunken fontanel, and poor skin tone. To test his skin tone, pinch a bit lightly. It should go back to its normal appearance immediately; if it stays pinched-looking, call the doctor *immediately*.

He may have an allergy to something in your diet. If this is the case, try eliminating all cow's milk products. Be sure to read package labels very carefully; if the ingredient list includes whey, casein, or any ingredient with "lact" in it, it's probably dairy. You may need to do this for 2 weeks (or occasonally even longer) to be sure.

Lastly, he could just be getting too much foremilk. This is more likely if he is young (under 2 months old). If this is the problem, nurse him on one breast *only* each feeding. That will usually fix it.

And, he should *not* be getting water unless he is about a year old, especially if you are worried about dehydration. Plain water can cause dehydration because in order to absorb the water, he needs electrolytes (a group of 3 minerals). Human milk is electrolyte-balanced so it is *better* than plain water if there is a problem.

As always, if you are still worried or not sure, call the doctor!!

First of all, take him to see the pediatrician. The sunken soft spot may denote dehyDration. The sweating sounds like a fever breaking. Did he have a fever? If so, it may be a stomach virus. Make sure you tell the dr all of the symptoms. I usually make a list of things to ask and tell the doctor about. The more they know the better. I also would stop the cold baths. Luke warm if anything is best. I would not panic. You are not over reacting, you are just a good mom. I'm sure he's fine. Good luck.

I think you are NOT being paranoid, GO TO THE DOCTOR FIRST!! when in doubt go go go, i still do and always did (yes i did get there a few times for nothing) but to me it looked like something and i would rather be safe than sorry. How old is your son?? wet diapers are a good sign, but it doesn't mean that something is not upsetting is digestive system. My baby spits up alot if I drink milk, something about it he can not handle. Could be he has a flu of some sort, really it could be anything. You carried this little man and would have the best instincts as to whats happening with him, my hubby and mom thinks i am paranoid too. But really i do not care, i just want whats best for him. (and many times I have been Right about my instincts so, I get the last laugh).

I'm not a doctor, and any advice that I give you shouldn't take the place of a medical doctor. Period.

With that being said, though, I remember that my son went through a period of time when he didn't eat much, and spit up what seemed like more than he ate. He's eight, now, and perfectly healthy.

If your baby isn't running a fever, acting lethargic, or not looking around, I wouldn't worry too much.

If the symptoms don't stop within the next twenty four hours, or at least improve, I would take the baby to his pediatrician.

Try to give him water, but if he won't take it, there's nothing that you can do. Try to get him into the doctor, though, if he is still clammy in the morning.

I dont think you should panic,as long as he is wetting diapers and his mouth is wet he isnt dehydrated.
dont overdo the cool bath either, too cold can put him into shock!
it sounds to me like he has acid reflux.
and he "knows" that when he takes a bottle his tummy aches and throat burns and he throws up..so why take it...
I suggest making him an appointment monday with his pediatrician and explaining the situation and ask if it is acid reflux! if it is,he will get some medicine to take twice a day and probably have cereal added to his bottle!
giving a baby straight water is not good!
a dehydrated baby usually wont have a BM either. I think he is fine just has a sensitive tummy!

It sounds like he has a virus. I would definatly take him to the doctor. My daughter dehydrated and went into cardiac arrest. It is nothing to play around with. Your definantly not paranoid. My daughter continued to have wet diapers even when she was dehydrated. Not sure why. Sunken soft spot is a big sign. Eyes will sometimes look sunken. Baby may be lethargic. I hope it is nothing but i would definatly take him in to the doctor.

I would suggest that you call your local hospital and ask to talk to a ER nurse or the nurses line if they have one, If you live in a small town with a small hospital call a bigger city hospital in your area. You can tell the nurse all his symptoms she/he will tell you what to watch for, or if its a good thing that he be seen. The nurse can also tell you if there are any illnesses going around which he may have the symptoms to. Good luck... when you are a mom you are never pernoid just being a good mom and being worried is all. Always be safe and call to talk to someone that may know more that is going on in your area.

Do men and women no longer discover that Christ is referred to as and refers to Himself as "the Son of Man" forty three occasions within the KJV New Testament. Obviously there isn't any obstacle among the terms.
