Change your diet.
Foods that loosen your bowels are all the small fruits like berries, cherries, plums, grapes, and their dried versions like prunes and raisins.
Why? Small fruits are designed to be eaten by animals and then quickly excreted so that the seeds in the fruit are not digested but are carried to a new location. You can take advantage of small fruits' natural laxative properties.
Also greasy food will loosen you up - pork and beans and cheese send most people running for the john.
Don't eat food like grits which "set up", although grits is excellent to eat if you have the runs. You can try avoiding bread and see if that helps.
Just experiment with your diet. Eat just a few things each day and keep changing them until you are successful.

The Bowel is a muscle and it needs - fibre, water and exercise to work normally.
A lot of older people have constipation because they cannot exercise as much as they did when younger, they forget to drink water on a regular basis during the day and prefer eating their favourite foods rather than stick to a healthy diet.
If you are not old and are able to follow the three steps (all on an equal basis) and it does not work - you may have another problem which needs to be addressed by your Dr.
With constipation comes some very painful wind - or it could be something your eating - its a very old fashioned idea, but it can work to relieve your discomfort and it is to take a level tspn of BiCarbonate of Soda in either milk or water - tastes yuk, but it will make you burp and discharge an amount of wind that seems to register with the bowel and produce stools.
Bottom line - seek medical advice from a Doctor or Natural Health practioner.

Lots of good suggestions here. Bottom line: change your diet.
Whole foods will always assure your intestinal health. Two things that will help you get there (in addition to a fresh and healthy diet): Psyllium Husks - stir a heaping tablespoon full in water and drink it quickly. It tasts a little like fresh hay. Not bad.
Psyllium husks swell up in the intestine and rake all the plaque off of the walls, making it easy to eliminate. You've gotta do it regularly for a while for it to be effective.
Yogurt with live cultures. That will help establish a healthy intestinal flora.
Oh, and another thing - flax seed. For one flax seed is very rich in essential fatty acids, which are imperative for good physical and mental health. But they also help with elimination and intestinal health. You can get flax seed meal and sprinkle it on cerial (no sugar) or bake it into whole wheat biscuits.
Take care of this quickly. You don't want to be storing all those toxins in your body.

Get a physical check up.
Check on the Internet for foods that constipate and foods that don't.
Eat fruit for a few days and then slowly add back other foods until you become regular.

Basically nothing. Caffeine doesnt help motions. Infact coffee if strong, is a known constipator. Strong black coffee is given without milk or sugar in the treatment of nausea, vomiting and/or loose motions. Drinking hot water induces bowel movements. May be the coffee you drink has more water and is lighter in concentration, and is very hot.

Cut back on pop of any kind, if you don't know what pop is, coke, Pepsi, mountain dew.
Increase your water and juice.
If that doesn't help I believe you need to go to the doctor, you might have thyroid disease or have an obstruction.

Eat raisins, lots of them. Take fiber, either the liquid or chewable. They will give you gas, but they do eventually start working but you need to take them regularly.
Walking helps too. Eat food with fiber in it. Yes, it is bothersome and you need to take care of it so you don't get hemmroids if you don't already have them. Good luck!

Other than seeing your physician, I've found the best solution to irregularity is to use a fiber laxative, such as Metamucil. There are different brands in different forms that you can try.
