Cynthia Kadohata wrote Kira-Kira, and it did win the Newbery several years ago. I loved this book when I read it. I loved many things about it. I loved the fact that the narration flowed so smoothly even though the narrator ages throughout the novel. Her voice changes as she grows up. Anyway, I thought it was a good book, one of my top favorites of that year. (Other favorites from that year include The Teacher's Funeral, The Schwa Was Here, The Truth About Forever, and Pepperland).

You should read Cynthia Kadohata's latest book, Weedflower, it is a great book. I liked it just as much if not better than Kira-Kira. It is set during World War II and it is about a young Japanese American girl's experiences in an internment camp.

i read kira kira and loved the book. even though it was about a sister realationship it made me feel closer to my older brother. it also made me remeber hearing that siblings are the most important relationships in our lives. i also read her new book weedflower but loved kira kira much more. her books also connect to me because the base is asian culture. i'm chinese and sometimes face the small minds of a few people i meet. kira kira and weedflower showed some of the expirences in the 50's which makes me glad that i live in this time period.
