In Western WA, winter customarily comes with freezing mornings followed by much warmer afternoons. I'd recommend jeans, a t-shirt, and a moderately warm jacket for most days. That way, you'll be warm enough early in the day, but when it heats up later, you won't regret your fashion choice. Scarves, earmuffs, and mittens aren't necessary unless there is snow on the ground, which is pretty rare in Western WA.
You're from Hawaii, so you are probably used to rain. In winter, it often rains everyday for a week or two at a time, but the rain is normally not too heavy. I typically go around without an umbrella or poncho, because in WA, you're going to get damp, so why waste energy to fight it? You'll dry out before you know it though. Bring a raincoat for heavy rain. However, you might have better luck buying a coat here then you would in Hawaii.
Eastern WA has a completely different climate than Western WA, where I live, so find out what side of the mountains your boyfriend's from.

If you mean Washington State, there is a wide variation depending upon which part of the state. In the Seattle/Tacoma area, it is usually above freezing. Usually. And, most of the time due to the nearness of the ocean, it is very commonly in the low to mid 40's (Fahrenheit). When I was there some years ago at Ft. Lewis, they got cold and ice and snow, and that was so unusual people were bummed out and cars froze their engines. But, as I said, usually it is moderate there, year round.

In the Southeastern parts, such as Yakima, it gets pretty frigid and downright nasty. And, up on Mt. Rainier, you can freeze to death really fast when a storm comes in.

Since you are acclimatized to very warm weather, you will need to over-dress for a while.

The best thing to do is to ask him what it's like where he lives and what you will need. If this bothers him, take a second look at this relationship. But, my guess is if you ask, he will be happy to explain to you.

Sweaters, jeans, light jacket. It doesn't get that cold. The average in the winter is still in the high 40s. Bring an umbrella for sure. That's the rainy season.

You'll have to judge that closer to time. Who knows how cold it will be this year??? I'm planning a trip to Colorado in late October and i'm packing for warm and cold. It all depends on what month of winter you're going in.

A raincoat and a sweater.

Ask your boyfriend. It rains frequently but is not terribly cold (rarely gets below freezing), rarely snows, but of course is a lot colder than Hawaii.

just pack thick clothes and a big fluffy warm fur coat and if it gets too cold there's always a coat shop =P (they make a roaring trade off the people from the south)
