After starting with "The Sixth Sense" then moving on to "Unbreakable", followed by "Signs", then "The Village" - does it seem that he's having trouble equaling his previous successes?

I would agree. The Sixth Sense put him on the map, I thought Unbreakable was wonderful but it didn't get as much attention as his previous film. Signs, for me, was just okay... and The Village was a disappointment. I haven't seen Lady In The Water so I'll have to reserve my opinion for another time.

Haha you are absolutely correct in my opinion. Though I do find him to be a good director, he is very poor as a writer. In his decline since 'The Sixth Sense,' he has come to be known as somewhat of a one trick pony, err director. His movies tend to be really beautiful visually, but plot-wise there is a definite lack of focus, almost as if he has these ideas in his head but is never able to manifest them on the screen. It's sort of a director's nightmare really, he is so talented as a director but is not thought of well because of his capacity as a writer-director. I haven't seen Lady In The Water, but I'm not hearing good things about it. I have heard rumors that he would like to direct an upcoming Harry Potter film. In this situation, it may work very well because he is not writing the film - he would simply be bringing his visual capabilities to an already well-written story, and I imagine this would serve him very well.

I would agree with you, but actually I thought Lady in the Water was better than The Village and Signs. I thought it was pretty good actually.

It's gotten to the point it's better just to rent it, that way you probably already know the ending, and you won't feel ripped off with the $12 ticket charge. Really, he's lost his touch. Go see "Clerks II" instead!!

I don't get why any of them were successes - in my opinion, they all were bad.
