I am a native German and live in the States now.
I always use a calling card. It is really a good deal.
he name is: "Diamond Africa" (you can buy it at gas stations) and they are available as a 5 or 10 Dollar card. I always buy the 10 Dollar Card and it lasts for a month. I have long conversations with my family and friends there.
An other option is to pre dial another number before you call Germany. You get connected to another service and it costs maybe 3-5 cents a minute. They charge you with your monthly telephone bill.

Too much. You're best bet is to get a pre-paid international calling card.
