love him...i'm not sure if he retired or not..
i saw him in concert in the 80's..and his bass player then was randy jackson the judge from american idol..he was a decent bassist..

He was one of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. A true genius on the violin.

Don't know what he does nowadays.
