Yep..they form a plug in their rectum that consists of feces, hair, bedding material and dead intestinal tissue. It is actullay formed during hibernation..not before.

When they hibernate their system shuts down, so they don't have to go to the bathroom at all, sometimes bears will get up and go to the bathroom and then go right back to sleep but it is likely only every few weeks.

I believe, and I'm not sure of this, that they eats weeds, and sticks and things to basically form a "cork". Sounds gross, but I believe it is true. I'd look it up though.

I probably would have picked that category too --- it's ok. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer. All I know is he may not have all his facts straight but NEVER underestimate a kid and their facts. My son knew more about dinasours than his 2nd grade teacher and she was intimidated to have him in her class (she said with a smile on her face but she meant it).

no they don't use a cork. i would imagine that it comes out on it's own and they lay in it until they get up from their long winter's nap
