why don't britains former colonies have a national day to give thanks to great britain and the monarchy?

after all britain has given so much, a great language, great sports, a top notch view on life, marmite, legal systems, baked beans, korma, great tv and film humour and so many more things..., what have our former 'colonies'/the new worlds given us in return apart from grief and resentment. Its not right.

marmite isn't british? thats news to me. Native britons weren't wiped out, european invasion may have dcreased their numbers through death and breeding. The english language originates from england no matter what influeneces it has had from european countries.

many of our former colonies celebrate their independence day with a keen sense of how fortunate they were to discover their nationhood under english direction, rather than being subject to the mercenary and brutalising commercial exploitation of belgium or portugal.

of course, many former french possessions are equally proud of their heritage - and with justification. the high respect in which most african countries hold either the british council or l'alliance francaise shows how generous citizens of the newer nations can be in acknowledging the debt they owe to their colonial interlude.

but zambians, botswanans, nigerians, and the beininois know that the essential gift that their former masters gave them - the thing that they now value most highly - is their freedom.

Because there were too many strings attached to what Britain gave. Little things, like inability to vote or to freely trade with countries that don't happen to be British colonies...

British legal system is indeed great, but why thank monarchy for it? It started as an affront to the monarchy; the monarchy had to be fought and defeated in order for Magna Carta to be enacted...

And finally, to whom excactly have Britain given korma? Korma is an Indian dish whose origin goes to the Great Mughals. Britain actually borrowed it from India...

If you truly study Brithish history and the creation of their colonies, you'll find that Britain was ferrocious in their treatment of local cultures. Consider how British descendants in North America treated the natives of the land. That happened everywhere the British went. I grant you that poor treatment of the locals is par for the course with any conqueror, however you can't expect the conquored peoples to celebrate the wonderful things brought to them.

How many of these americans actually known they won their little war of independance with a lot of help from the FRENCH, Spanish and Dutch? Bet they don't tell you that at school, huh? Of course not, America is too up it's own a*se to realise (no z!) that it didn't fight off the British all on it's own. And, I bet they didn't tell you that the British won as many of the battles as the American Hillbillies either? Sorry if I upset you by telling you this, the truth hurts doesn't it?

you seriously need to look into world history to discover the answer to your question
i am ashamed of what britain did to those countries
i am ashamed of our monarchy present and past
non of the things you mention are of british origin
and if you look back far enough you will discover that even our language is not of british origin
if you trace back your family history YOU are not british
the native britains were wiped out centuries ago
and if you look to the present do you think that the people of iraq are happy that we are bombing them into the ground
