More people should moniter their children and their use of the internet, chat programs and webcams.
Your kids may be great kids, not the type to get taken but look at this:

I agree...
About webcams.....get rid of them!
Having the computer in the living room where you can monitor what they do without looking over their shoulders is a great idea. Someone might want to talk to them, but I bet you these kids wouldn't be stupid enough to take their clothes off in the living room where anyone can see them.

So the parent should grab a chair and watch the kid's every moves? I'm an unattended child and frankly I think parents should just check the history of the sites visited and stuff, not watch them. It's called how to be a parent - be involved in what your child does, but have the ability to know when to let the child uses his judgement by himself.

Those kids weren't using their best judgement in that article. Why would you go naked for a webcam? I can't grasp that.

I find that as a massive insult, a blunder of gullibility to the media, and obviusly a bad case of overprotective parenting.

My name is Josh and am thirteen years old. As we speak i am using the computer without supervision, and have been doing so for the past six years of my life. I use the computer and the internet responsibly and only use it for schoolwork, and safe websites such as this.

I have a webcam, Msn Messenger and an internett connection, which i seldom use and i only converse with people i definitely know, such as family members and close friends. I am a great cynic towards online content.

My parents are great and they trust me.

So why generalise? Why brand every single one of the leaders of tomorow as incapable of using the internet without babysitting?

And why, you you single out children? An incident similar to this one could just as easily happed to persons over the age of 18. What difference does it make?

If you have children, i pity them.

in case you notice somebody leaving a small newborn on my own in a automobile take some day holiday to computer screen. call the police. save music of the quantity of time that the guy is long gone. Get the license selection. in the event that they circulate away in the previous the police get there supply them the information. possibly they are going to preserve it, possibly not. optimistically they are going to take place in the previous the guy leaves. If its an rather heat day and its a shops automobile parking zone, circulate interior and ask to talk to the administration or risk-free practices and clarify hi. Im specific if the police and young ones centers gets in contact it would be considered newborn endangerment and forget. they might charge them with something.

No internet-connected computer in the bedroom, no webcam. However, I trust my daughter a lot (now 15). I know she is offended when things pop up that she doesn't want to see. At every opportunity I remind her of what is lurking out there through the newspaper, television shows and through conversation.

All of my computers are password locked from both the screen saver and turn on, so they only have supervised access. My TV's are both set with parental control locks - locking out anything with sexual content or suggestive dialog even if it is PG-13.

I also talk with them about the dangers, etc. They are 15 and 16, so far they haven't argued about.

I don't have children yet, but when I do I wouldn't leave them unattended at the computer, I would sit with them for as long as it took to make sure they knew how to be responsible and safe. Once they proved that to me, than they could use it on their own, unless it took them till they were adults to figure it out, than I guess I'd be there with them for a long time LOL :-)

When I was a teenager I used to work for the FBI by just chatting in various chat rooms. It is amazing how often I was solicited for sex (I was 14 at the time). I would agree to meet the individual, who usually promissed to give me something and to "teach me" things. I'd show up, and the cops would arrest the perv. Rather than monitoring your child's usage, I suggest you TEACH THEM about internet predators and how to report them, etc.

No personaly I like to lock them in the closet that way I know where they are when I go to work. Had to get a thicker door when they got older and to cut out the sounds of the pathetic whining about wanting to eat.

Thanks for the heads-up. I use the filter on my computer for content. If the site isn't rated ( which many aren't ), then they can't get access to them. My computer is in my den, and I check every few minutes or so to see if they're where they're supposed to be. Thats why I don't own a webcam too.
