Don't stress too much. I'm 37 and I haven't found my right career yet. I've been a registered nurse for 15 years and I will hopefully change in the coming years. I want to do something else that doesn't require taking a lot of sh** from people who treat you like dirt when you try to help them.

Well, some people never really know. Others know right away, so don't feel too frustrated. I didn't decide on dental assisting until I was 22, and then I stopped for a while and was just 'mommy' for a few years. Now I back assisting, but still think of going back to school. Not that I don't like my job, but I still think I might like to go into forensics. (No, this has nothing to do with CSI) I also thought I might like to own a tea shop one day. So, probably when I am 40 something, I will try that. Who knows. Go to school (if you can) for something that interests you...for now. Assuming it's not something majorly long and expensive, then if you decide later that you want to move to something else, then know that you can. Nothing is set in stone. Guilt is a religious thing, mostly. Don't try to please others. Don't feel bad if you make the 'wrong' choice. People can only learn if they make mistakes sometimes. Hope that helps.

Well I'm 41 and still have not really decided on what I want to be when I grow up I have worked in two different career fields and neither one have been right for me. In the last 13 years I have been in the health care field and it just is not as rewarding as I though it would be. It is just a job to me and I have 26 more years to go before I retire and I want to do something I enjoy So I to am looking for the perfect career one that will make me smile.

Leo: it doesn't matter.
I found my right career at 30, I took up teaching and I love it.
You will discover what you want to do in life, but you can change, so go to college.

I didn't. It's not easy.
I'd say go with your gut feeling. You have to ask yourself is the job/industry you're considering something you want to do every day for the rest of your life?
I've heard it said if you have a true interest in your job, it's not a burden. You don't consider it to be work at all.
