Waiting until international problems crop up on our doorstep would mean waiting until it was too ******* late to do anything about it. We would rather sit over here in our movie theaters and air conditioning and ignore the rest of the world. But we are economically involved in the world. Our future is dependent on the rest of the worlds stability OVER THE LONG TERM. We have to be involved.

I just asked a similar question... The problem with cleaning up your own backyard before you act, however, is that it's a never ending task. Where ever human beings flourish there will always be the necessity to strive towards a better way.
I think America should be getting back to its basic principles of liberty, equality and justice though. Preaching that to other nations while its not being practiced well at home is hypocritical.

I do. The U.S. has a problem of confused ideology. The US jumped into WWII because they first thought it would boost their economy by selling weapons to the Allies, and when the Allies started losing and the Americans were staring at billions and billions of bad debts, they jumped into the war. They fought discreet battles against the Soviets for 50 years because they thought their capitalist money machine of big business was under threat. They fought the first Gulf War because they wanted permanent oil bases in Kuwait and Saudi. They bombed Iraq because their economy ran on petroleum. Now they are in a battle of religious antagonism.
The US needs to get its own philosophy straight. As a nation it is the greatest in the world, formed as its citizens are, out of a global gene pool, unlike every nation in the world, which is limited to one or two still-distinct, indigenous or imported peoples. Battles of ideology cannot be fought in the same way as by entering a war with its impressive ground, sea and air weapons. If the US government, a government of, for and by its people, makes peace with the values that America once stood for, it can negotiate peace with anyone in the world.

First the U.S. has failed to look after it's own back yard, for sure, but we have no choice but to fight and defend ourselves.
I was selling produce in a nearby city not long after the latest war in Iraq started. I had talked to and delivered items to this guys house twice before he informed me that he was a ---- ----. My son had tried out for the ----- and didn't make it is how we got the conversation started. I told the ---- that my church would pray for him and his team. His reply was something like this. "What we need is for people to be on the street corners telling the public that we have to be over there. I was in Iraq 5 years before the latest war started and I saw and I know."

Well of course... BUT - you have to realize, that keeping the terrorists busy in their own countries will help keep the war off of American soil.
Nip 'em in the bud.
They are not trying to "westernise" anyone - they are trying to stop people who hate us and are planning to kill us.

In my opinion that is exactly why most countrys hate the U.S. is for wanting to act as a mediator in every conflict in the world. I think we should "chill out" and let them resolve their problems sometimes.

Of course, it is unfortunate that we will be attacked and ridiculed by the rest of the world if we do though. These countries do not want us to be involved, until they need money. Then we don't do enough. I say let them fall to greed and corruption. We will always be glorious no matter what.
