Normally I wouldn't even address this but I think maybe you are sincere, so let me try.
First of all, you are making a couple of assumptions that may be getting you stuck. Not all black people listen to RAP and Rappers do not speak for the black community as a whole, anymore than country singers represent the white community as a whole.
I am a black man and I don't really too much care for rap. It just doesn't speak to me. But it speaks to somebody. The world that some rappers portray, with their hookers and the covert gun or drug deals as they drive by each other's Mercedes is not one that I am a part of but somebody is and they choose to put that out there.
That is their perogative, just as it is your perogative to look at that and judge it. In the case of the N word, I don't care if it's a black person or a white person-- no one is allowed to call me that unless they are looking for my foot up their @!!
Do I think it is it hypocritical that some blacks will say it to each other and not allow someone on the outside to do the same? Absolutely. Do I think that makes it right for you a person of non-color to go ahead and do it? Of course not. You don't need to disrespect someone just because they are disrespecting themselves.
I'm sure at some point in your life you may have referred to your mother, sister or friend as a ***** to someone else because you got pissed off or whatever. But I doubt you would allow someone else to do the same. It's kind of a "do as I say not as I do" mentally which is just plain bull, but we are all sometimes guilty of it.
And in the end, I think you really need to ask yourself why it is so important that you be allowed to say that word to someone. You seem to think it's not a big deal to say it, but in the same vein---it shouldn't be a big deal not to.
There will always be hypocrites telling you not to do something while they sit there doing it (Read Animal Farm!). I think you should just ignore them and define for yourself what's right.
Later skata......

This is a very good question... I am a teacher in the prison school system in Texas; I have asked this very same question in my classroom. The response that I have gotten every single time is:
- If a caucausan person uses the "n" word, it is meant in a totally demeaning way, historically speaking. In the pre-Civil War times, this was the acceptable term for African Slaves. In the South today, some of the older generation still use this term, remember they are from the period of time before the Civil Rights movement. It is hard to break old habits. But it is an unacceptable term.
- if an African American uses this term either with an "-er" or an "a" on the end of it, then it is like saying "my brother" or "my homeboy"
My retort to these statements:
" It does not matter who uses the "n" word, it is as disrespectful by either race...in fact, it is more disrespectful coming out of an African American, because of the historical negative connotation of the term."
As far as racial slurs being used by African Americans towards any other person/race, wrong is wrong no matter who says them; the rational of it is just "payback" for all the years that they had been demeaned is totally unacceptable and foolish.
The portrayal of African Americans is not being helped by the "gangsta" persona.....the anger and despair in their "rap" is supposed to be their life being "hung out" there...they are testifying......I have known and have many of these young men in my classes....most of them tell me the same thing...this is "bullsh**", these rappers are probably from the suburbs and have never been in the hood before....

Your question is a valid one. I did notice that you started out with an almost apologetic tone. I'm not a black person, but it seems that having to explain yourself shouldn't be necessary. All people make statements that can be taken in many different ways. Black people who throw out racial slurs towards white people are also racists. Racism knows no color. We all sew the seeds of tolerance, or the seeds of hatred. We must all pray that tolerance prevails.

You are not a racist. You're simply ignorant.
Get a life. Don't worry so much about "others". Why would any normal person worry about this stuff?
There are many people of all races that would, in one way or another, fit into your "box". There are plenty of stupid, racist whites and there are plenty of stupid, racist blacks. SO WHAT.
Just be the best that you can be. Don't spread hate. Let's all work for a unified planet.
AGAIN;
Get a life. Don't worry so much about "others". Why would any normal person worry about this stuff?

I consider it is when you consider that of what they're consuming at dwelling. Indian persons traditionally devour differnt types of curry daily. Curry has plenty of spices adding onions, garlic and and many others. And I'm Japanese and lots of Japanese persons say Americans and Europeans odor kinda humorous, too when you consider that of what you men are consuming and biologically, white and black persons have more potent frame odor than Japanese persons. I simply wish to permit you to recognise that it isn't best Indians however many Americans and Europeans who're white and black traditionally have more potent frame odor, additionally.

um, because people like to complain and blame other people for their problems rather than get going in life and work hard. people often just want a scape goat to bash around, so why not white people. white people did put them in slavery over 150 yrs. ago. blacks need to get living and stop complaining.
