The division of the year into 12 months goes back to the Babylonians 5000 years ago. Their number system was based on 60, just as our system is based on 10. So it was natural for them to divide things into 60 parts or 12 parts (because 12 is a divisor of 60). The Babylonians also created our time system (night and day divided into 12 hours each, hour into 60 minutes, minute into 60 seconds). There system spread throughout the ancient world, and has continued to be used to this day. They gave 30 days to each month, so certain adjustments in the calendar had to be made to keep the seasons coordinated with the months. Our current calendar was created by the order of Julius Caesar and refined by Pope Gregory.
The month has never been 4 weeks, that's only an approximation.

The word "month" derives from the word "moon" and there are nearer to 12 cycles of the moon a year than 13 (12 signs of the Zodiac NOT 13). They aren't exactly 28 days long either, Nor is the year exactly 52 weeks but one or two days over that,
The root problem is that it is not exact, The number of days in a lunar cycle does not divide into the number of days in a solar cycle exactly, (there is no reason why it should) so whatever we do is bound to be a bit inelegant,
The ancient Babylonians (who had a sexgesimal number system, one based on 60 not 10) solved the problem this way. They had 12 months of 30 days each and a year of 360 days. Every 6th year they fitted in an extra, 13th month of 30 days that would put the seasons and the calendar back in synch with one another, (6 x 360) + 30 = 2190 days = 6 x 365. It did not solve the Leap Year problem but at least it was mathematically neat.
The Babylonians, with their enthusiasm for the number 60, also devised the system of 360 degrees in a circle and 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute and used those same subdivisions for the hour (mariners divided the night into 12 signs of the Zodiac and the same system was then applied to daytime, to give us 24 hours in a day,)
Their system was copied and adopted throughout the ancient world and is the one in use today. With the sole exception of their 360- day year.
February was once 29 days long and 30 days in a leap year and February was also the last month of the Roman Year, which started on March 1st (that's why they chose to vary its length as that had minimum impact on the rest of the calendar),
Julius Caesar then renamed the fifth month (Quintus) (5th, counting March as 1st) after himself (July).
Then Augustus Caesar decided to honour himself similarly and renamed the sixth month (Sextus) after himself (August). But August only had 30 days at that time, so he imperially decreed it should thereafter have 31 so he would be thought the equal of Julius, and he lopped a day off February to achieve that.
So there being 28 days in February = exactly 4 weeks is more by accident than design. It was Augustus' giant ego that made it so.
There are NO months with 5 whole weeks to them. A month may have 5 Mondays but if so, it won't have 5 Thursdays or Fridays.

4 months have 30 days
7 months have 31 days
1 month has 28 days except on leap years
30 * 4 = 120
31 * 7 = 217
28 * 1 = 28
Add those up and you get 365 days
(365/7) = about 52 weeks
What i'm trying to say is, because not all the months contain the same amount of days in them, you have 12 months instead of 13 months.

You're over-simplifying. 28 days = 4 weeks. All months, except February, have more than 28 days. The result is that some days from each month push into an additional part of a week, resulting in 52 weeks in a year.

total no of days in a year is 365 days
now, 52 x 7 = 364 days.
Now there are 7 months of 31 days = 217
there are 4 months of 30 days = 120
Feb has 28 days = 28
-----------
Total............... .......... = 365 days
==========
once in four years during leap year the no of days in that year will be 366 days.
Hence this discripancy is due to the 7 months which have 31 days and not 30 days.
