Hire a licensed HVAC contractor to come to your place of residence and perform a combustion analysis on all of your gas burning appliances. A gas burning appliance can look like it is burning properly, even after having been "serviced" , but still be giving off carbon monoxide (CO). A "perfect" flame does not give off CO. An improperly burning gas appliance has the potential to send several hundreds of dollars worth of gas right out the flue pipe. Definitely worth the money to have that test performed, and appropriate actions taken to make proper adjustments. Oh yeah, buy a CO detector. I wouldn't wast my money on a combo detector. Buy a Nighthawk. Worth the money.

That will depend on the source. Carbon Monoxide (CO2) is lighter than air therefore it will rise from its source.
If you live above a garage for instance you will have a difficult time to stop it from entering your residence.
As you may know CO2 is a colourless, odourless gas.
Generally is should not be a problem in any residence.
If you have a major concern. purchase a CO2 detector they are available in any major hardware store

get a carbon monoxide detector (like a smoke detector) at a hardware store. most can plug right into an outlet in a hallway or something...they are pretty inexpensive too.
