I personally fight for the right to be able to leave the house without being slandered or insulted because of who I am. I once read a line on here in yahoo answers that said "it's better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you're not". I'm all about honesty and trust. I fight to be equal as the next person. I want to live in a world that's safe and secure, that doesn't care who you are, as long as you're kind, honest and fair. Now the question is... will it happen? I hope so... i really hope so... however i don't think i'll get to see it in my lifetime.

I don't know if you should call it gay rights. Maybe just equality. We are just asking for the SAME rights heterosexuals already have, just like blacks and women wanted to be treated equally so long (yet not so long) ago. I completely understand not allowing a same sex marriage in a church if that particular religion is explicitly against it, but to say that two men or women can't go down to the courthouse and get married seems silly, what ever happened to separation of church and state?
I am a person just like everyone else. I have feelings, I have friends, I have family, I have my own set of struggles. I go to work, I come home, I walk my dogs, I make dinner, I am just a person. It is a shame I cannot be the person I am due to fear. I plan on coming out to my mom soon now, and am sure she will be accepting, but you never know how someone might react. I am ready to move out if the need arises. That's how touchy the subject is.
It's hard to believe that in this day and age there are people who are still so ignorant to the fact that for the most part homosexuality is NOT A CHOICE. Seriously, why would you wake up one day and decide that you wanted to be threatened, harassed, discriminated against, ridiculed, kicked out of your house and possibly lose your job. To the people who say it is a choice, the only reason you say it is because you are either seriously close minded and unaccepting of anything unknown to you, or you are so committed to your bible that you forget it also tells you to love thy fellow man and not to judge.
It'd be nice if people would just grow up and accept the fact that homosexuality has been around about as long as dirt (well not that long but you get my point) and it's not going anywhere. I don't even see it as natures way of weeding out the weak. Obviously if it was we wouldn't be here. And it's not like it's impossible for a gay person to have sex with the opposite sex, it's just more of a chore and not enjoyable. People fight for "gay rights" either because they're gay or they know someone close to them that is gay. Being close to someone that is openly gay exposes one to the hardships of that life and can be a very mind opening experience. Through all that though, I still wouldn't want to be straight, cuz then I just wouldn't be me would I!?

I went to high school in a small town. Nobody was out in high school it was the 60's and that just wouldn't work. But since then, at least one of my classmates died of AIDS and two others committed suicide over gay issues. They were all great guys and good friends, two from childhood and one from high school and through the college years.
The guy who died of AIDS probably would have anyway. It was at the beginning of the AIDS era, and no research had been done. But by now, if we had the money and determination we should going into AIDS many many few would die than do.
Both guys who committed suicide came from great families, but families that might have had a hard time accepting them as gay, so neither of them came out at home, or anywhere around town. I didn't know, and I'm gay too. In a better world, they wouldn't have had to do that. And I wouldn't have to think about them in a sad way, but could remember them as the good, fun friends they were!
That's why I seek a better world where equality reigns.

If I don't then that's saying that all humans don't deserve rights. That only the straight ones deserve rights. What kind of message does that send? It's the same as of saying that people tried to sell to African Americans, that they didn't deserve rights. It's insulting to say that now about African-Americans, and it should be the same with Gays, but it's not yet. That's why I fight for gay rights. Everyone deserves the right to love who they want, regardless of gender.

I fight for the rights of all living souls because it is the right thing to do. And I know love is the most important thing. I always see both sides of the story (or more sides) and have to stand for the good.
If you don't stand for something then you will fall for anything. Yet you need to reseach the issue and talk to people from both sides. Education is a powerful tool.

because all Americans are entitled to have rights equal to everyone. By stating certain people have rights and others do not is wrong. just because someones sexual preference is not in accordance with yours does not mean that you should violate their rights. This was tried years ago. Why do you think the civil rights movement was for? Are you saying that gays should not have equal rights soley on the bases of their sexual preference?
By taking away or not allowing the rights of gays what's next to be taken away or not allowed?

I do becasue I believe no human being should be looked on as any less than human. I fight because as a heterosexual married woman, the rights for ANYONE to be married dont threaten my marriage and family, and I have yet to see a really convincing argument to say otherwise. I do because I believe any society who sees a group of people as less than human is in fact, turning their backs on the very things that make a worthwhile society: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
And I fight because I love my gay friends, and I want them to have the same joys in marriage and in familyhood I have.
And BTW, I am proud to live in Massachusetts!

We fight for rights because we have few. We are not treated as straight people are. Most states don't let us get married, or let our partners on our health insurance. Most states also don't allow us to have rights in the hospital when our partner is ill. We can lose our children if we break up with our partner and the list goes on. We fight for our rights because we want to have the same rights as everyone else. We have the right to be free as the straight people are.

I fight for gay rights because I'm gay and I'd like to be considered as worthwhile a human as anyone else.
I'd like to say that if I were straight, I would fight for them just because it's the right thing to do. I think I probably would, but I'm not sure of that. It's amazing what a little self-interest can do.

I don't think being gay is anything to be proud of. I do think everybody should legally be treated equal. Everybody should fight for equal rights.Gay is a social issue and it is not related to ANYTHING outside of a social issue. Yahoo answers is a public social platform and anybody that is offended has the ability to remove them self from it . Nobody should be afraid to go to work ,buy a car , go shopping , etc.
