My daughter is also 12 and downs syndrome. She is also a VERY picky eater. I have found that I must offer her a small amount of one of her favorite (healthy) foods along with the items I want her to eat. When she finishes the "unwanted" food then she can have more of the "favorite". She learned quickly how things worked, now I don't have to explane it at each meal and each time I re-serve a food item she doesn't like I make it a little bigger serving.
Weight issues are a common problem for DS kids and adults so always use a Healthy "favorite" food.

I have 2 picky eaters, so I put a lot of different foods on a stick and tooth picks. Just use your imagination and let them help and/or give ideas!! Good luck and God bless!!!!!!!!!!!
