I want to get into trading books on eBay. When you buy books on eBay, are you looking for something specific or browsing? Do you search categories, authors, what? I need buyer info.

You always want to list them by author and title and that should use up the 28 or so spaces you have available. In addition to selling stuff on eBay, I've bought books, cds, dvds etc. and always look for books and cds by author/artist and dvds by title. I think that seems to be the way most people do it.

And, if you're going to start selling on eBay, make sure you sign up to accept PayPal - you'll get a lot more people buying that way.

Also, unless your book is ultra-valuable, list the beginning auction price at 99 cents or less. Once you hit that dollar mark, the fee they charge starts getting ridiculous. And don't be swayed by their sales pitch telling you to list it in other categories or you'll wind up going in the hole fast. Just list it in the main category and let it go at that.

Remember too, not everything will sell. And there are a lot of bottom-feeders who will wait until there are about two minutes left until they bid so they can get it at the minimum bid....but at least you're getting rid of it!!

Almost forgot - eBay is cracking down on excessive shipping fees, so books can go second class (media mail) or first class if the buyer insists, but always go with media mail as the first shipping option. Depending upon how thick a book is, somewhere between $3-5 is a good charge for shipping. If you elect to ship a book overseas and invite overseas bidders, it'll cost about $25 for ground delivery so if you elect that option, make the shipping charge high.

Also, there is a drop-down category you can choose as well, but it tends to be kind of nebulous....books, music, etc., but for books, it will go to a second box where you can check off the type of book it is, mystery etc.

The first couple of times you do it, it'll be kind of confusing, but once you get the hang of it - nothing to it.

Also, be sure you have a scan or photo of the book to add to your listing - you get one free with each listing.

Good Luck!

If you want to browse, I'd do it at Amazon. It's much easier and they have reader reviews that I like to read. After I pick out some I'm interesting in reading, I do a specific search on Ebay. Also remember to check out the shipping fees. Sometimes the books are $2, but shipping is $8. They can be ridiculous sometimes.

I seldom search by author. Usually I search specifically for a title I am looking for. I seldom buy something that doesn't have a photo, so make sure you take pics of your books.
