I have been trying to get a patent on a ping-pong & tennis bat made out of titanium but there is a previous patent which is very similar. In this patent it says 'aluminium or similar lightweight metal'. I somehow need to prove that my patent is an 'inventive step' and not just an obvious thing to do. The patent which is already filed is very broad in it's description and makes it difficult to get around. Can someone please help me find non-ovious improvements for me? I really appreciate the help.

Unfortunately I am trying to do this with very limited funding. Basically I need to be the one who does all the work. I know this advice may be hard to come by but I am hoping that there is someone out there.

I'd strongly suggest contacting a patent attorney for advice. You'll want to be sure to have someone that's knowledgable about your invention as well as the patent process itself.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
