I have found the perfect art for my next tat, but it is from a picture book and not my tattoo guy's collection. Is it OK to ask him to tattoo some one elses' art?

Wow, that was so fast. Yahoo is Answers is fabulous. I don't know how to pick the best since everyone pretty much just said yes. Heh. Sorry.

copyright act does not cover tattooing, go ahead , tattoo artist must be really good to copy anything ... see his style/creative before tattooing

Yeah, most will. Some people dont like to but most people dont have problems with it. I actually paid for a sitting on a tattoo then my tattooist left & i never got my money back. So now im getting it finished at the same shop & i only had it started a year ago.

Some will and some wont. Some artists just do "flash" from books and those are the ones you DO NOT want to do your tat.

My last one came from a design on a small wooden box and he copied it, I gave him "artist freedom" to make it better and with just a few changes from his design, that is what I got. It's the goddess Ma'at and it's beautiful (I wish I had a pict).

no, No, NO....... a picture book illustration is copyrighted material, and no self-respecting tattoo artist would infringe upon that. They will usually accommodate the client, but copyright infringement is out of the question. That is tantamount to theft!!

Yes, many people bring in pictures of what they want. My aunt got a tatoo from a book as well.
