I started my son on rice when he was 4 months old, But I know that their digestive system can not handle juice or any kind of pureed meats until 6 months. My sons doctor recomended that I give him rice or oatmeal for a while then add vegtables then fruits and then the juice and meats. Make sure you add them about 3 to 4 days in between each new food to be able to detect an allergic reaction to a certain food. Good luck.

Rice cereal (not other kinds) at 4-6 months, when the baby has an interest in food (watches people eat), will open for the spoon, can sit up in a high chair, and doesn't automatically push the food back out with its tongue (called "tongue thrust"). If you try your baby at 4 months and the baby doesn't seem all that interested, wait a couple weeks and try again.
Docs actually don't really recommend much juice any more, because it has a lot of sugar and not many nutrients. You can start juice at 6 months, if you want. Most docs now say to dilute the juice down with extra water, and don't give more than 2 oz of juice. (So you could give one 4 oz bottle of half juice/ half water a day if you wanted to).

Starting baby on cereal is usually not recommended until 4-6 months of age. Certain juices are okay at 6 months, others not until a year (for example, orange juice, not until a year because the strong citrus upsets their tummies).

It is suggested that you wait until they are 4 months old to start them on cereal. Your baby needs to be able hold her head up well and you have to watch for her to start moving her mouth like she's chewing. Be sure to spoon feed the cereal to her and never put it in a bottle. I would hold off on the juice for at least another month after cereal, and be sure to dilute it with water, as it can cause diarrhea. Congrats on your daughter! Cherish every moment, because in a blink they are walking.

You aren't supposed to give a baby juice or cereal until they are 4-6 months old because their digestive systems are to immature to process those things.

yes a baby has a sensitive digestive system, but they ARE capable of digesting these.
acid reflux is very common in children/babies now days, when my daughter was 4 WEEKS old and could hold down NO formula our doctor who is one of the most sought after pedicatrician in our area told us to give her zantac for children and to put cereal in her bottle!she was loosing weight and eating nothing UNTIL he did this! she started holding down bottles and gaining weight after this dr. visit! contrary to alot of peoples belief, babies on cereal dont get fat. she is right at the weight she is supposed to be now,and at 18 months is on regular diet! my 6 month old son is also on formula/cereal bottle! same reason as my daughter! I do not suggest adding juice into the diet UNTIL your dr says to. it can cause dehydration, diarhea and a number of things to go wrong. also when you do add juice, half water ,half juice is best!! Im a cna,and like I said our pediatrician is one of the best around here! good luck
