Have him drop a half package of mentos at once into a 2-liter of diet coke and watch the reaction. Then he can have some illustrations and literature as to why that reaction happened. Do some googling on "mentos and diet coke" and you should find some good resources. If you want to see what I'm talking about, go to www.youtube.com and search for that text.

I saw a really neat experiment on Mythbusters a couple of nights ago, and it had to do with how to get beer the coldest and fastest. You could use a different liquid, though, and they tried methods such as simple refrigeration, cooler of ice, cooler of ice water, cooler of icy saltwater, and burying it in the sand to see if the sand kept beer cool in the hot sunshine.
