And where was scary Kerry? He started on a cargo ship, well away from the war. Seeing the end was close and his ship being slated for a decommission, he elected to chooses his next assignment. He was thinking of his future, got on the swift boat. Got a couple of scratches and then came back home and complained of doing his job! His political future was set, he was now a true liberal, getting paid to do a job, and working harder to get out doing it, unlike the men and women that gave their all for their job and country. I do not dis respect John Kerry, was there, I just did not like they way he acted after and then during the election. Like the news media, he pump it up to make it sound more sensational than it was. This is a reason I don't watch the news.
In 2008, I wold like to see an old fashion election. The candidates debating more, speaking of their idea of the direction the country should lead. Quit talking to the people as if were idiots. Stop telling each American what they want to hear just to get a vote. There is only 2 Americans, one that is and one that want to be. We are not white, black, brown or yellow. We are Americans, we want our government to protect us, not provide for us, we can do that ourselves. We should not hate others for any reason, we should only see other as different, that is not bad. Our candidates should not mock each other, but support each other, after all, aren't they Americans too?
And buy they way, act more mature in you question and you might get better answers. As far as President Bush military enlistment goes, I was a reservist and missed the Gulf War because my company was not activated. It happens, get over it.

Not true Bush was a swift boat commando. Bush flew a secret mission to Vietnam and busted the Opium triangle. While tracing the Opium he found Kerry's PT boat and it was smuggling drugs to Nantucket for the Kennedy's.
He only spent enough time in Alabama to catch the clap from some girl in a doublewide. This was all declassified before he was Governor or decider.

I'm with you on that, and they make Kerry out to be a coward although he VOLUNTEERED to join the real army and saw action under fire, when he could have easily joined the guard or got deferrments like Cheney.
The point is Bush didn't really serve as has been stated here and they also always ignore the drug abuse issue.
Re: Jerry Springer...I guess you never listened to his radio show on air america, you should check it out you would be surprised, he is an articulate advocate for progressives.

He wasn't hiding. He had too many drugs in his system to take his ordered flight physical so he took off to Alabama where his commanders couldn't do an evaluation because he wasn't there. That reward is still open if anyone can prove he showed up at all!!
When I was in the Army, up to 30 day's was AWOL. After that you were a deserter!

You know...if you served your country, you have every right to be darn proud.....Likewise if you try to impress someone with the notion that you did but didn't, you should be ashamed. I wasn't enlisted but don't tell me I didn't serve. Father was in Vietnam 8 years and husband served in Desert Storm. I've had enough of war and the impact it has on the soldiers, the families and the country but I know that occasionally wars are unavoidable. This one was.

You're quite the ignorant bone head aren't you? There is a very large air base in Alabama. Maxwell AFB, and they train pilots there.
You must be 5' tall and its the size of a pencil. You have the mind of a very small child.

Well, excuuuuuuuuse me.
Alabama was safe during the '60s: nobody invaded them.
GWB did his job and 'Bama was secure.
And in his spare time, he helped get some Republican elected for office (governor, senator, congressperson, dog catcher -- the details escape me.)
At least you didn't ask about his "alleged" cocaine or DUI problems. Funny how there are no details about those things.
Can I get 10 pts?

Because Bush signed a six-year 'military service obligation,' he was required to attend at least 44 inactive-duty training drills each fiscal year beginning July 1. But Bush's own records show that he fell short of that requirement, attending only 36 drills in the 1972-73 period, and only 12 in the 1973-74 period. The White House has said that Bush's service should be calculated using 12-month periods beginning on his induction date in May 1968. Using this time frame, however, Bush still fails the Air Force obligation standard. Moreover, White House officials say, Bush should be judged on whether he attended enough drills to count toward retirement. They say he accumulated sufficient points under this grading system. Yet, even using their method, which some military experts say is incorrect, U.S. News's analysis shows that Bush once again fell short. His military records reveal that he failed to attend enough active-duty training and weekend drills to gain the 50 points necessary to count his final year toward retirement.During the final two years of his obligation, Bush did not comply with Air Force regulations that impose a time limit on making up missed drills.Bush twice signed documents pledging to meet requirements; twice violated that oath: Bush fell well short of meeting his military obligation, a Globe reexamination of the records shows: Twice during his Guard service -- first when he joined in May 1968, and again before he transferred out of his unit in mid-1973 to attend Harvard Business School -- Bush signed documents pledging to meet training commitments or face a punitive call-up to active duty. He didn't meet the commitments, or face the punishment, the records show. The 1973 document has been overlooked in news media accounts. The 1968 document has received scant notice."While Bush was in Alabama, he was removed from flight status for failing to take his annual flight physical in July 1972. On May 1, 1973, Bush's superior officers wrote that they could not complete his annual performance review because he had not been observed at the Houston base during the prior 12 months.
The reexamination of Bush's records ....along with interviews with military specialists who have reviewed regulations from that era, show that Bush's attendance at required training drills was so irregular that his superiors could have disciplined him or ordered him to active duty in 1972, 1973, or 1974. But they did neither. In fact, Bush's unit certified in late 1973 that his service had been 'satisfactory' -- just four months after Bush's commanding officer wrote that Bush had not been seen at his unit for the previous 12 months. YES neoCONS,,,be very proud of him.
