There is this guy at work that deserves to get fired, and he has been protected from being fired by the supervisor. However, the supervisor was out on vacation all this week, and i think what he did today ought to be the last straw for him. He didnt show up at all for work today and didnt even bother to call. Another co-worker emailed the supervisor to ask if he took leave for the day, which he didnt-and our supervisor is pissed now. Well what would be a good way to bring up that he also took off half a day earlier in the week because she doesnt know about that. And this aint like a fast food job-its a professional job in a library.

Do you work at the patent office?
I went to the Patent Office to register some of my inventions.

I went to the main desk to sign in and the lady at the desk had a form that had to be filled out. She wrote down my personal info and then asked me what I had invented.

I said, "A folding bottle."

She said, "Okay, what do you call it?"

I said "A Fottle."

"What else do you have?"she asked me.

I said "A folding carton."

"And what do you call it?"

I said "A Farton."

She snickered and said, "Those are silly names for products! And one of them sounds kind of crude."

I was so upset by her comment that I grabbed the form and left the office without even telling her about my folding bucket.

Start keeping records of every time this person takes time off, copy his supervisor and whoever is the supervisor's supervisor. It is really a moral buster when people come to work when they are supposed to and put in a full day's work and have to take on additional work because some irresponsible jerk doesn't care. It's very possible that the supervisor is aware of all his absences. In some work environments this kind of behavior has to be documented for quite sometime (in the employee's personnel file) with written reprimands before the employee can be terminated. This may be true at your place of employment.

If u think that the supervisor wont get mad at you because u didnt say anything on a timely manner then go ahead and let him know that this person has been absent from the job.

But dont tell the supervisor old issues like 1 or 2 months before (or even before that) cause he might feel that u have been also protected this person.

This is a tricky situation indeed. You mentioned that he is being protected by his supervisor yet you also stated that she was angry to learn that he was out and didn't call in. It appears to me that he might be on disciplinary probation for conduct that you said he should be fired for. Your supervisor wouldn't generally make that know to his co-workers for confidentiality reasons. I suspect that is the case since why would she be upset with him if she is covering up for him. That said, it is unfair and unethical for a co-worker to derelict their position since that places undo burden on others that work there since they have to cover his labor. Most companies consider that actionable offense leading to written warning, probation, or termination. What I would suggest is that you and the other employees that work there have a talk with your supervisor concerning him. Be cordial and non-confrontational. Come over and be concerned about the employee you are having problems with. Bear in mind that the actions of one employee can have a strong effect on the performance of those around him. A good supervisor will recognize that. Give the supervisor a way out of the situation by asking her to let all of you know when one of you calls in an abscence. Explain that this will give you a heads up as to how to handle the days chores missing an employee. Always be tactful and polite in a situation like this. If you don't get any satisfaction with your meeting with your supervisor, go to her boss or, if she doesn't have one, go to human resources. Hope this helps.

Sometimes we need to mind our own business and let your supervisor handle her business. That is why she is the supervisor, nobody likes a tattler teller.I'm quite sure she will discipline him for a no call no show which is a serious offense on most jobs.Is there an assistant to handle situations when the supervisor isn't there? If I were you I would just stay out of it and let someone else take charge. If he clocked in and out for the shift eventually she will find out.

Talk to the Supervisor who was upset by all of this and ask if he or she intends to talk that co-worker. Maybe, when Monday comes around, that Supervisor will say something and get the ball rolling.

Good luck with this!

I'd mention it to your supervisor in private and see how she would like to handle it. Whatever work he isn't doing is affecting the rest of his coworkers. He's not being considerate to you and you have every right to let your supervisor know that he is slacking off.

Obviously you don't have enough on your plate at work to occupy your time. Maybe you can ask the guy that never shows up if you can have some of his work. GOOD GRIEF MYOB. Anyway, why blame the guy, maybe it's your workplace that's seriously flawed. I'd tidy up the resume and get your cover letter in order.

If you were that guy would you want to be fired? Dont get yourself involved... if he deserves to be fired he would have been fired a long time ago. By getting urself in the situation you are just creating more problems for you.
