Stimulating Conversation?
Do you get bored with the same old conversations with the same people? Nothing ever stimulating to talk about! Have you wanted to have a "deep" philosophical &/or intelligent conversation (Sober or Not) and not had someone for it? You know, things rattling around inside without clarity or organization in need of a sounding board or response.
If you have/do, what works for you (besides journaling)?

i don't do journaling. at least not daily. what works for me is talking to people who are like-minded. yes, it is difficult to find them. im thankful i have friends who are open to them though. actually, i did not realize that until i opened up to them and simply asked them. im a big complainer and observer, they know that. a couple of years before, they stayed away but now they understand and actually appreciate our discussions. you just have to find the right people. do not pre-judge them...that they don't think. just be yourself and the right kind of people will stick. and yes, you can find great people here in yahoo answers even though many think that you don't. a friend from Y!A once told me that you just have to ask and phrase the right questions.

off topic, most philosophers ended up being hermits at some point in their lives. maybe the answer just lies deep within us.

I do not bore easily with conversations because I have many people to converse with about many different things. I have found a few times however that I will have a Epiphany with no one to share. Journal writing is one way that I try to elevate the boredom but even that doesn't work so I jump in my car go to the nearest local hang out for scholars and artists, grab a cup of coffee and what do you know? I am no longer bored and I talk to total strangers that sometimes have the same ideas as me. This rarely happens to me though because I am usually really busy.

Good luck, man. I am in Mensa and I can't have an intelligent conversation there either. The only difference is that everyone there is sure they are right, and so most of them are poor listeners.

I would seek out other souls like yourself. They are out there. Maybe take a night class in philosophy at a university or something?

I understand you, sometimes it seems I have nobody to talk with. When I realize that I can't find right person and I'm bored I just read. One good book will make me think, may be it will give some interesting ideas to discuss with the same people...

well, yesterday I was in the store and an older fellow was going on and on (very eloquently) about the nature of the universe, religion and superstition, life, death, evolution, the cosmos... mostly to the shelves of dairy products. I think he was assuming no one was listening. I was listening, but I was also trying to decide on my purchases, and so couldn't formulate a response to him that didn't include cheddar cheese...

I guess the moral of this is that the grocery store isn't as good a place to chat about deep things as, say, Yahoo Answers.

my girlfriend and i could talk for a long time without getting bored. when i have to go without her i really miss being able to talk with her. i try talking to other people but no one comes close. youve just gotta find someone who agrees with you about things and youll have all the stimulating conversations you could ever hope for.
