I don't think that's true. It's definitely somewhat of a niche audience I grant you, but Classical music festivals world wide are BIG BUSINESS!! There are millions of people who listen to it. I would love to see more 20 somethings into it. Supposedly, just listening to Mozart on a daily basis can raise your IQ score. That's what I heard!! But as was stated hear, the listener is required to pay close attention. The listener must be an active participant, who is trying to feel all the subtleties of the music and the richness of expression. It takes some effort, but you have a lasting reward.

It has it's place. I tend to enjoy it at times. It's nice to listen to when you are stuck in traffic and are beginning to tense up. Of course, at those times, one should stick to soft violins, instead of marches, I suppose!
I think the main reason is that they are afraid of it. They don't realize the many aspects of it. Most people assume it's all 'elevator musak', and that's just not true. If you took a bunch of those types to, say, a concert with the Phiharmonic or the Boston Pops, and made them sit through it, I bet they'd come out with a different perspective. Don't you think? Continue to enjoy, and be proud of it. I also enjoy many types of music and let the mood decide. If you saw my CD collection, you would think they were from different people...not all the same person!

Listening to Classical music could be compared to reading the classics. You don't want to do it all the time, but once in a while, you want really intelligent, well thought out music or reading. Certainly reading better than Stephen King or music better than whoever is big in hip hop right now. Personally, the one music I never have to be in the mood for is Johann Sebastian Bach. When I listen to Bach, he puts me in the mood he wants me in through his music.

Personally, I think it's wonderful. I recommend a guy named Bedrich Smetana, who wrote a beautiful piece called the Moldau. And also as response to what someone else said, it DOES have rhythm, all music has rhythm or else it could not be considered music :) But don't worry, all classical music lovers are not dead.

I like it Stewie. I listen to it often. I usually listen to it when I have paper work to do, cause it relaxes me and I can focus more. Mozart is my fave. I have about ten cds of classical.
I'm not going to lie to you though, I still dig the Rolling Stones and oft times intersperse the two.

i wonder the same thing. people people are idiots and listen to panic at the disco. kids these days dont have the attention span for classical.
i usually recommend John Adams to people in an attempt to better their musical taste.

I do, too. It helps me concentrate when I'm at work and helps me relax after a long stressful day.
I think it's SO much better than any pop (etc.) music out today.
Yay for being different!!!
