I'm American. White. Russian, Polish and English. None of these are attributes of who I am. I feel no pride or shame. I think nationalism is for people who can't think for themselves and want to be manipulated by their leaders. Racism is for people who are ignorant of other groups in society and rather than try and understand them adopt beliefs they have heard about them.

Not ashamed. I'm very proud of being a Naturalized American (since June 9) who illegally immigrated here from Mexico. I'm proud of the woman that I have become and I couldn't be where I am now if I didn't have my past to help guide me along.

I'm now a teacher, business owner, mother of 2, sister, wife, daughter, grand-daughter, because I lived through what I did. I wouldn't change a thing!
