It does not hurt, but might be a little bit uncomfortable the first time. it's important to know to relax when you insert it, and make sure it goes up far enough..sometimes if you lay down on the floor to do it for the first time, it's easier.

I just turned 20 recently & have been married for a lil over a year & I just recently started wearing tampons more comfortably. I believe sometimes when you're a virgin it's harder to get it in there comfortably. Another thing I've heard of is that if your hymen is broken (which it can be by other than sex) then it a strand of it could be in the way & when you try to put the tampon in, it hurts cause it's going against it. The only suggestion I can give if you really want to be able to use a tampon, is to find the smallest slimfitting ones available out there to start with. & try putting a little bit of lubricating jelly on the tip of it, the end that you first push into you. I used tampons during my beach vacation a few weeks ago, for the first time, & I had to use the lube on them every time or it wouldn't go in right or comfortably. I still prefer pads though, I'll probably only use tampons for swimming. There's a website called www.beinggirl.com. It has a lot of information for girls & periods & such. They also send you sample pads & tampons to try out if you ask. & remember, if it doesn't go the first time, just throw that one away & try again. I had to try several times at first. & after that I had to throw away a couple more later. But it got better. I hope you figure it out!

All I know is that I have had my period for 2 or 3 years and it still hurts me to put a REGULAR in!I swim and I am a virgin which makes me really tight. I know some people who can shove in a super with no problem. Everyone is different. I dont use them that often. Chances are that the more you use them the less painful it will become. Start off with a very slim one and if you need more absorbancy, gradually move up so as not to cause pain inserting one.

Its uncomfortable the first time cause you are conscious that its in there. It doe not hurt though unless you don't put it far enough in...don't be afraid you will forget about it after a few hours....just don't forget about it....toxic shock syndrome can occur so change after swimming depending on the absorbency of the tampon and the heaviness of your flow 4-6 hours or 6-8 hours

Get a good brand of tampons like with pearl tip applicators, NOT CARDBOARD! It shouldn't hurt, but maybe uncomfortable. Just be sure to insert it far enough to make it less uncomfortable.

Its just akward. I wouldnt put it in for the first time right before swimming though. I did that my first time, and I didnt get it in there correctly. It didnt come out but I knew enough that it shouldnt feel like that and to get out of the pool. Get used to wearing it before going swimming.

u can go swimming, but it will expand inside you, so when you get out of the water, go and put a new one in, the other expanded one could pop right out

For my sister it did....She inserted the cardboard applicator and must have missed the step where you remove the cardboard...so she walked around in pain for a while...
