ovulation induction is not the same as IUI. intrauterine insemination is a fancy word for artificial insemination.

ovulation induction... clomid, a fertility drug is the most typical drug used. it excellerates the maturing of your eggs, hence forcing ovulation. you take clomid on days 5-9 of your cycle (day one is the first day of your period). when the eggs are developed and NEAR ovulation the doctor USUALLY follows up with an injectable drug... pregnyl is commonly used. pregnyl forces "super ovulation"... eggs spill out when you ovulate (not all are mature) THEN if the insemination does take your doctor MAY make you take progesterone shots for the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy.

side effects, MOOD SWINGS, multiple births. it is said that clomid alone only increases the odds of multiples to 8%. injectable fertility drugs when used WITH clomid can increase your chances UP TO 51% depending on the doseage and exact drug. oh, clomid also can CAUSE cysts.

BEST OF LUCK. i'm going through all of this right now!

Ovulation induction and IUI are totally seperate things.
Ovulation induction is when you take drugs to stimulate your ovaries to produce follicles and relase eggs.
IUI or intrauterine insemination is when your husband masterbates into a cup and the semen is spun and washed and inserted via a tomcat catheter through your cervix and into your uterus.

The most common drug for ovulation induction is clomid--it comes in pill form and you will take 50mg for 5 days (usually cycle days 3-7 or 5-7) but there are other drugs including injectables.

If your doctor is going to to ovulation induction WITH IUI then you will take the meds as indicated and will either use ovulation tests or get a trigger shot and then come in the next day for the insemination.
I hope this answers your question but please feel free to ask more as I've been though both!
