As I was driving I saw a squirrel struggling in a pain on the road. His body was flipping up in the air, and his eyes were closed, and his tail was bent. He had obviously been run over.
When I saw him, I decided to finish him off with my own vehicle - poor little guy.

For the people who disapprove: I'm sorry!!! But it was dying a slow death. From it's condition there was no way it could have survived with medical attention. I just didn't want it to die slow - that's the worse kind of death.

Well, lets play "what if"? What if you had done nothing?
What's the likelihood of someone with both the medical
expertise and inclination to take care of him and maybe
bring him back to a painless life? Vanishingly small.
What's the likelihood of someone else running over him
and finishing him off, but getting the guilt trip that goes
along with that? Pretty good.
What's the likelihood of a predator (such as a cat) finding
him and trying to finish him off? Pretty good.
What's the likelihood of the predator then getting run over?
Also pretty good.
And finally, what's the likelihood of him expiring right there
with no help and then scavengers coming after him? Pretty good.
And what is the likelihood of the scavengers getting run over?
Not as good as you think (they're wiley suckers), but pretty good.
Sounds to me like you took the first step (finishing him off)
but probably didn't perform the second (getting the corpse
off the road). Failing to move the corpse may cause further
death...
However, you did the right thing for the right reason.
Most people would have just kept on driving.

As long as ur not one of those nasty people who hit them first I guess it would be the most human way to END his life and put him out of his suffering but what are you gonna tell his little squirrel family "hey kids I ran over ur dad but look at the bright side I put him out of his misery!!"

I would say yes, the poor thing was suffering and obviously in pain. You are a caring person to take the time to end his suffering.

That was very wrong. You should have taken it to the vet. You didn't have the right to play God with it's life adn decide if it should live or die. I knkow that you felt badly about it suffering, but killing it wasn't your place. It was the vet's place to make that decision.

I dunno. if you were able, it would be good to see if he lived another 5 minutes. I've seen animals die that were hit by cars, and it was pretty quick. However, I've seen animals live that were hit by cars.
Either way he would most likely be dead in 10 minutes. And morals / ethics are ALWAYS situational. if in your heart you acted out of compassion and concern, it's hard to see it as a coldhearted, evil thing.
Thanks for actually caring about its fate.

My Mum hit a rabbit once, she stopped, went back and showed me how to break it's neck. Then we took it home and made a road kill casserole. She figured it's forgivable if you don't waste life.
