I have a pavillion a350n desktop pc. My cable modem went down after a severe storm. Now I replaced it but I can get no connection from internet. Then I noticed my lan connection disappeared. Can'tseem to get it going. Don't know if it is bad or lost driver but lights up on back of my PC. Do I need to replace my ethernet or is it just drivers. Tried the drivers but keep getting error messages
Thank You Vicki

Well, there is a possibility that your ethernet card on the PC is bad. What you can do is open a command prompt (go to Start > Run... and type cmd at the prompt--this should open a black window). In the black window type "ping 127.0.0.1" (minus quotation marks), then hit Enter. If it replies, then your ethernet card is fine; your next bet would be to replace the cable that goes from your PC to the modem. If it doesn't (if you get "request timed out"), then there's a good chance your card itself is bad, as you've already tried reinstalling the drivers. On the bright side, an ethernet adapter for a desktop PC usually runs in the $10 range at a local computer shop, so it's not an overly expensive part to purchase.

Well, one thing you could do before downloading drivers, is do a repair of your connections. To do this, go on Start - Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Network connections. From there you will see all your possible connections to a network. Right click the icon and select repair. If it tells you a error message, well it might be that you fried you network connection.

Also test out if any other computers have the same issue in your home. If so, your computer might not be the problem but your cable itself.

Don't forget also to make sure they are all enabled and not disabled. Cause if so, that might be the reason why you cant connect.

Good luck!

I suspect you need to replace the ethernet card. It probably fried along with the cable modem. But at least NIC cards are fairly cheap.
