I have heard that people can go days with being 3 cm dialated before labor comes but I never hear about women who are effaced a certain amount and go days before labor. I am 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated. Does that also mean labor is close for me?

oh also my due date is 5 days away. I was wondering what are the percentages that women actually give birth to there baby on their due date and what are the percentages for women who go into labor before their due date, because I have been having a lot of cramps.

They are actually about the same. Your not in actual labor until your 4 cm dialated. Thats what they call active labor, and if your 100% effaced then defiantely yes. Good Luck to you! I wish mine would hurry and come on!

Congratulation on the head start!
Unfortunately, how dilated and effaced won't tell you when labor will start. But it is telling you your body is getting ready.
In order for your cervix to dilate in early and active labor, you need contractions that are Strong, long and close together.
It's not uncommon to be dilated to 1, 2, 3 cm prior to labor.
But rest assured you body is doing everything it can to prepare for upcoming labor.

I stayed at 2 cm and 50% effaced for almost 2 months before I had all 3 of my kids. By the third I wasn't expecting anything soon when they told me. Every woman is different though, it is up to your baby and your body. Congratulations and Good luck to you!!!

Dilating means that your cervix is opening and effacing means that it is thinning. Usually if you are over 50% effaced, there is a good chance that you are close to labor. The more effaced you are, the quicker your cervix will dilate. If you are active (walking) it will help speed things along too.

I was sent home at four cm and seventy five percent. I walked around like that for a couple of weeks.
I would say that you take care of yourself and be ready to go to the hospital whenever your water breaks or active labor begins.
I know it feels as if you will be pregnant forever, but I can assure you that before you know it you will have a beautiful baby to love.

all depends I would stay close to home that's for sure!
My friend induced all of er labor's like your by cleaning he carpet and rearranging her furniture but I wouldn't do that because every pregnancy, labor and delivery are different it could cause complications. Just stay in bed/couch with ice water and feet proped up! and follow all Dr. instructions Congratulations!

There really is no way to say for sure. You could stay at 50 and 1 for weeks or you may go tonight.
