My G.Grandfather was taken as a political prisoner of war in WW2, my family escaped when they came through for the roundup of the families by living in the forest, years later they would hear their names being called out to come pick up my G.Grandfather. In general those that went to pick up family members were never heard of again.Fast forward to the late '70s ,my family are now US citizens w/new names and the Russians sent my Grandmother a letter asking her to come"home" to sign a land deed and she can have her family property back. Out of fear she didn't. I am now searching trying to find out more info on my G.Grandfather and my computer has been destroyed by a virus no one around here has seen, and I've googled my name and found it on Russian websites.

I realize this sounds paranoid- I agree w/you 100% But consider how I grew up and the precautions my family had to make just to be here, it would make anyone a little nervous.

Why don't you try to contact (by way of regular mail) the American Embassy in Russia for help. Maybe they can refer you to an english speaking Russian lawyer who can research the issue for you all while maintaining your anonymity. Who knows, there may be a piece of land to be sold and money to be made. The attorney can work on commission if needed. You'd be the hero of the family if it all works out.
