who here kept their first guitar?

i just wanted to know who has kept their first guitar.
my friend bucky is getting a gibson les paul soon and the guitar he has now isnt anything special. everyone is telling him to keep it but he wants to go out and smash it when he gets his new one...

he is 16. :]] and crazy.

He should totally keep it. My mom kept her first guitar, she got it when she was in college, and when I started high school she gave it to me. He'll probably think something like that is kind of lame right now, but probably not in the future. In any case you should remind him that it's never good to smash an instrument, even if you get a new one. It's not a satisfying as it sounds. My friend flattened his sax when he got a new one, and he totally regrets it.

I did the exact same thing, smashed my first junk guitar. And I sold my first decent guitar. Now I regret it. But really if you don't want the guitar please give it to a foundation like Instruments for the Youth (www.ptosh.com), because there are alot of poor kids who would love to have even a junk instrument.

I really don't see why not to keep the first guitar as a memory of your first gutiar. So tell him to hang it up then if he wants to smash it after the time goes by, then **** it. THAT'S WHAT I'LL DO.
