They claim that rap music is just a bunch of crap and that it's all about sex, drugs, and money. And that the rap videos are nothing but showing off their fancy cars, jewelry, and half naked women.

But these same people are fans of Motley Crue who sings a song about strip clubs (Girls Girls Girls), fast cars and drugs (Kickstart My Heart & Dr. Feelgood). They are rockin out to Aerosmith that HAVE to sing about sex AND have sexy women in the videos. They were the same ones drooling over Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" video or David Lee Roth's "California Girls". And what about all the fly sports cars in their videos or them riding a Harley?

Why can't they just accept rap music for music? Linkin Park, Korn, Rage Against The Machine, Limp Bizkit, Everlast, Anthrax, RHCP, Aerosmith, and even freakin Tim McGraw has accepted rap music and have done songs with rappers or made their own rap-rock songs. So why can't they? Maybe if they actually tried it they would like it.

I have to say that I'm encouraged by these answers. And just to clear things up...I'm not being hypocritical by stereotyping either. I listen to everything. Rap, Rock, Metal, Country, Techno, etc. So when I'm talking about these "headbangers" being stereotypical I'm talking to those people who actually do what I was talking about.

Yeah, I did use a lot of 80's bands but the same can be said about 90's bands and bands today.

And actually, that one girl is right. There are tons of rap songs that are meaningful. Eminem's Mosh and several others, too many Tupac songs to list, several Biggie songs, Jay-Z, Nas, Chamillionaire did a song about the dangers of HIV, even the lame *** 50 Cent did a song about the heroin addicts in Baltimore.

I'm not. Don't group me in that mix. Rap & Metal have a history together and have influenced each other. When the two come together it can be a pretty amazing ammalgamation.

Give it up for Swagga!! You damn right!! Rap does have a message that if people would just listen to it they might understand. If they weed out the trash, they'll find out that most rap is treasure!! There's good and bad music in ALL genres; including rap, rock, heavy metal, whatever. But don't lump all the people together as headbangers... it's not right to generalize them. And they'll get upset. I asked a similar question and was grilled by some and praised by others. It's just the way of the world; win some, lose some. But as long as WE know rap is music, it'll be alright. Screw the ignorant people and salute the open-minded...people who like music from EVERY genre and even if they don't, have enough class to respect others about their musical preferences...

The majority of rap is a guy chanting sh!t about his momma. But some rap (Not gangsta rap) like kanye west songs actually have meaning. So saying all rap sucks would be stereotyping. However, these gems are overshadowed by some of the crap thats in the rap buisiness. Some rock songs flat out contradict this because they are meaningless. However, the majority of rock songs have meaning. the majority of rap songs don't.

Anybody who thinks real heavy metal fans listen to crap like Motley Crue and David Lee Roth obviously does not know what metal is. I bet you a million dollars you'll never see any sports cars or hot women in a Morbid Angel video, or a King Diamond one.

Maybe it's becuase that is all rappers ever rap about. I listen to Metal but I listen to Metal with a message like Iced Earth, Megadeth, Iron Maiden and other great bands I once listend to rap like Nas and Tupac and some others but I stoped simply because I found better music and I've always listened to Classic Rock too. Rap as far as I know never has a positive message or tells a story... at least not a good one. Plus it's not real music it's just sounds and baselines followed by a guy rhyming. People in real bands play real insturments and it takes hard work and dedication to learn unlike a rapper who only has to learn lyrics. I hate to harp on rap but I don't believe that it's fair to say that Rock and or Metal are saying the same thing. Feel free to respond.

Dude all the bands you named Motley Crue aand Aerosmith are from a specific genre of metal called glam. If you look at thrash or groove metal they never sing about stuff like that. Just look at Metallica or Megadeth. Same with Sepultura or Pantera. They dont sing about stuff like that. But i do agree with you on one point not all rap music is bad. Personally with me i just dont like the mainstream crap. A example of a good rap group is N.W.A or Dangerdoom and Public Enemy.

Their turf got pissed on - those early 80's bands aren't in anymore, so they have to blame it on someone. But as far as the headbangers that listened to that music, they just can't keep up with the times. I grew up in the 80's - those "hair bands" actually sucked back then - but the collaberation (sp?) between rock and rap is cool. Alot of us rockers just don't get that true rap music, beat, etc.

Difference....All those bands you listed write music and play instuments...rappers program a drum machine and recite their words too it....Now...every example you listed are from the Hair Bands from the 80's ( with exception to Areosmith) However, pick up an Areosmith cd and listen to it...some of them have one or two songs that do as you say...but listen to the rest. (ie...Dream on, Eat the rich, Livin on the edge, ) You can lump a rap song into one of 3 categories...how much money they have, sex, how tough they are....

truthfully you are being stereotypical by refering to those with a preference to rock music as headbangers (i sway :3). not to mention assuming 'headbangers' all listen to the same bands and criticize ALL rap. i do not care for mainstream rap based on the fact alot of it is made just for money, not to mention the majority of it paints women as sexual objects. though i must say, ive met some underground rappers and they are some of the smartest people ive ever met. ick, ive got more to say but must go. ¬.¬ sorry couldnt continue.

Because just about everybody who claims to be nonconformist but still falls into a classification like "headbanger" or "punk" or "goth" is really just conforming to the norms of a subculture. One of the norms here is often the dislike of rap music.
