Join you local Toastmasters. It's a social club that focuses on public speaking.

Hate to say it, but practice. Lots of it. I'd recommend a public speaking class to help as well. It's a very normal fear that will only get better with practice.

Take a speech class in public speaking at your local community college, four-year college, and/or university.

Prepare your remarks in advance. Practice delivery in front of the mirror. Record yourself on video and look for mistakes you made.

It is said that Demosthenes, one of the greatest Greek orators of all times, grew up shy and unsure of himself. When he grew up, he decided to go into politics, but he couldn't speak in public. So he practiced on the beach on stormy days, trying to make himself oblivious to the sounds of the roaring sea (and roaring crowd). He succeeded.

practice infront of someone you know. Ask for pointers and the more you do public speaking, the more comfortable you'll get at it.

Mirrors and friends are the best thing. I had to recite a 5 paragraph speech last year by memory, and my friends really helped me with it.
Just don't imagine them all in their underwear, cause trust me, sometimes that makes it like 20 times harder...
