No. They find ways not to serve. If you saw Fahrenheit 911, Michael Moore made an effort (I don't know how hard he tried), to get Congressman to enlist their children. Of course, none took him up on the offer.

Once a person has gone to war, they are less likely to vote to start one. Take John Kerry or John McCain, both are not big proponents of war.

The slang for the people that have not gone to war, but are gung ho for war is "chicken hawks". It's strange, but the majority of Republicans that are so gung ho to go to war, managed to get out of serving in Viet Nam. i.e., Rush, O'Reilly, Bush, Rove, Cheney. It is also true Clinton did not go to 'Nam.

In addition, all of these country and western singers that sing about "kicking their ***" and so forth, sing from air conditioned studios, not the battlefield.

Let's get the Bush twins over there to fight along with the Cheney daughters and Rumsfeld's grand children. We'll get a troop reduction that afternoon.

Oh, and it won't be a cut and run. It will be a strategic decision.

DARN GOOD QUESTION!!! I wish there was a way I could make that bigger and stronger. No, they wouldn't. I would bet that 90% of those fools in Washington wouldn't feel that the military would be a "good fit" for their child. OR just would plum tell them no. Meawhile, let's see who else we can start a fight with and lose 1000's of American lives. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we are doing this for freedom. Not that anyone was threatning that.

How about I go to the mall and start slapping everyone and say I'm doing it for freedom. You have sinned this week thus making you a bad person and I am going to fix it by hitting you. Bad idea? Yeah, I think so. How is that different from what the US did?

Nobody would start a war if they thought about their children getting hurt. I think war and hurting people is something from the dark ages. if we want that sort of sport maybe we should concentrate on murders and paedeophiles. All the good people should not fight. I do not know what country your from, but you must know that the world cup and football has not long passed. Someone said to me(i am english) why instead of having side of english and irish and scottish and welsh, why not a UK side. This is why someone thought of the united nations. I think we have to stand up for them, but the same time the people who cause war are bullies and we do have to stand up to them.

love the idea that "they" start one.

50 years ago a lot of politicians had fought in wars. Now unfortunately we have a bunch of a-holes more concerned with lining their pockets than serving their country. Unfortunately they represent perfectly the majority of this country. No way Cherie would let her little darlings leave their flute lessons and actually do something.

There are many politicians and their children have had to go to war. If we go to a draft it will happen again too. Even Ross Perot's son was in the Air National Guard during peace time. He volunteered.

Guess you would have said "Hail to King George", and not put up one once of fight to retain independence from England way back then? Huh?
I suppose you were pissed as hell at the US response to 9/11 be going after Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan? Huh?
And the audacity to even consider lifting a rifle barrel to Hitler a few wars ago? How could we? What's it like living in your fantasy land? Look, I loved Lennon's song "Imagine", but even I realize the difference between a song of idealism and wouldn't it be great if... But the world isn't built that way. You and I may be, I assume you've never tried to blow up a bunch of innocent people at a pizza parlor, nor have I. But that doesn't mean their isn't out right evil, horrible people on this planet, who have the desire and the means to do just that! Politicians go to war, and they authorize war, people volunteer to go to war, to fight for our freedom, independence. And we should be thankful they do,... and still wish that the world could be a little more like John Lennon's "Imagine".

Actually, there are quite a few politicians AND their children who have had prior military service, and have served in war. And yes, they probably still would "start" wars.

NOPE cause then jack**s's like you would be left to run the country, instead of people who put themselves through college and devote their lives to the service of the people. i'd rather ted kennedy be a politician then you.
