Less than half a mile....maybe only a block or 2. Why? The ground from the beach to inland is verrrrrry steep there...the elevation climbs fast.

Also, I think the configuration of the bay itself will help the wave to break early and thus help protect the bay area.

So, that's my opinion...

Finally, i think discovery channel or whatever like to sensationalize tidal waves and tsunamis. It gets viewers watching. Fact is, alot of places in the world have very steep coastlines and would not be obliterated. I lived in Laguna Beach for a while, 2 blocks from the beach, but that was already at least 150 feet above the waterline.

Granted, low liying areas could be devasted.

Tip: Never buy beachfront property on this planet. The oceans here are powerful and unstable...
