Who Owns Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi is a venerable Japanese marque. While Diamler-Chrysler owns something like 22 or 23 percent as I recall, the company is independent, just as Ford and General Motors are independent.

Incidentally, this same company produced most of Japan's aircraft in WWII, including the famous Mitsubishi Zero and the Zeke. They have had a great deal of experience in making lightweight powerful engines.

It is a public corporation owned by its shareholders. Until recently Chrysler owned 25% of those outstanding shares. When Daimler-Benz purchased Chrysler a few years back the new management team (from Germany) mandated their sale. Likely because D-B has the small engine technology that the Chrysler/Mitsubishi partnership was collaborating on developing. I do not believe any other auto maker purchased those shares.

Mitsubishi is a public company traded on the Tokyo and Osaka exchanges. The primary stockholders are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (15%) and
Mitsubishi Corporation (14%). The rest of the shares are held by various other companies. As far as I can tell they are not owned by anyone like the Ford example you gave.

I don't think so. Chrysler used to own mitsubishi a few years ago, but that is no longer the case, although some of their current cars are greatly influenced by Chrysler.
