Hey...funny you ask that! Last year I had a full size praying mantis on my bathroom celing (you know there supposed to be good luck in the Asian culture) though I'd not Asian (My ex-boss was years ago that told me that!)
I caught one to in my backyard...to study it. Then it molted...unfortunaely many mantis's don't make it after that..it takes a lot out of them. And we bought some egg to hatch..but my BF left them in the sun for a few minutes...that's all it took...
poor guys.
2. runner up....hum I do love ladybugs and have bought them buy the hundreds for my backyard (nature alphid eater) but I'm going with my second runner up right now...as the Black Widow!
We've caught a few of them around the yard...and the hour glass on them is quite interesting to look at...there quite interesting to watch (in a container that is!) Until we take them to a remote hillside and let them out...we've been giving them other spiders we find roaming in the house! Last year we found one...named it Charlotte from Charlotte's web. But it had been pregnant and we didn'n know it...soon it made it's egg sack in the container and soon tons of little black widows in the jar......we took it that day...a a desserted area and let them all go before they killed each other.
Momma included! Those little buggier's are awesome fighters!

Preying Mantis's are way fun to watch when you feed them...
awesome! Some Martial Arts are takin' from the capturing ways the Mantis walks and strikes!!

I think the Weta deserves that place, it's a New Zealand insect that is so ugly it is fascinating, the giant version is nearly as big as your hand and then there is a Mountain weta that have a protein in their body that enables them to survive being frozen for months then they just spring back to life when spring comes. Way cool.

Yes they are. My Persian cat caught one the other day. Kept him amused for hours! Last I knew, the mantis was on the bathroom ceiling and my cat sitting on the floor, looking up and licking his chops.

I think the stick bugs were my favorite creation. They are so cool. I, personally, did not create the praying mantis. The marijuana I was on did.

killer bees by a LANDSLIDE!!!! so fascinating... except in movies they're always so inaccurate about them. actually the way they work is one bee stings you and then the smell from the bee trying to rip away gets to the beehive, where they track the smell and run after you, all 500 of them. and don't ever think you'll be safe by jumping in water because they just hover over the surface waiting for ya....

Heck ya. The females bite the heads off of the males and eat them after mating. That's awesome! I also like the Katydid.

They are cool insects. I found one at my grandpa's house years ago and we trapped him and fed him a cockroach (the mantis ate half of it...LOL).
