Front door on house stuck closed - turning handle doesn't turn latch?

Question

The door on my house hs closed, & turning the doorknobs won't make the latch move to open the door. How can I get the door open to change the latch mechanism?

take the pins out of the door hindge

stick a knife or butter knife in between the door jamb and the door to move to latch back into the door, open door remove screws for the doors latch plate and unscrew the screws on the door handle itself, and replace latch mechanism or just replace the whole thing.

from the inside, remove the 2 screws around the holding ring....pull the inside handle off........take a small screw driver and push the outside handle off, ( right in the middle of the door knob u will see a metal rod sticking out, push it), then take the screw driver and put in the hole that the metal rod was in and turn.....will help if u push on the door from the inside to take some of the pressure off the latch........

Go inside remove the ring aound the door knob should have screws.Then push out mechanism.You should be able to work the catch open with a screwdriver
