I am an incoming freshman and I want to take Algebra 2. I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade. Most people take geometry before Algebra 2. Is it possible for me to take Algebra 2 9th grade instead of 10th grade?

I don't see the reason students should take geometry before algebra 2. Algebra 2 is just an extension of algebra 1 with more problems solved with the help of geometry. Is mastery of geometry required before continuing your study of algebra? No. If they (school administrators) will allow you to put algebra 2 into your fall schedule, then get it. You won't be hindered mathematically by not having taken geometry. Or, as another suggested, take them both at the same time! The two classes are so different that neither is a prerequisite of the other.

You should definitely take the year of Geometry first. Algebra 2 will deal with concepts that assume that you already know about the material presented in Geometry.

In addition, your ability to think logically and form proofs of mathematical statements will be introduced in Geometry. Learning those techniques of proof, and how to set up and present proofs will be important in Algebra 2.

However, this doesn't keep you from checking out an Algebra 2 book from the library and studying in your free time...I did!

It should be as long as you take Geometry later, there's no problem...so I don't see why not. But my school did Geometry before Algebra 2 like everybody else. Because they use some concepts of Geom. in Alg. 2. However, if allowed, you'll just be in class with a different grade of kids. Alg 2 will be with sophomores and/or juniors for you and Geom. your sophomore year will be freshman and/or other sophomores for you because they will be doing Geom. right after Alg 1. The question is , do you really wanna do it that way?

Depends on your school. I was allowed to take Geometry and Algebra 2 together in the same year.

People have told me that half of Algebra 2 is completely devoted to reviewing basic algebra concepts that you have learned before. But most people take geometry first.

Usually geometry is required in order to enroll in algebra 2. I would suggest taking geometry first. There are probably reasons why schools have it set up this way.

I took Geometry 1st and then Algebra 2. Talk to your instructor first.

I took Algebra 2 before geometry. It's fine. It depends on the school, book, and teacher, though. It worked fine for me.

Some schools combine algebra-2 with trig in the second semester. Trig will be much easier if you have studied geometry.
