As you boot hit F5 like a madman. You will then get the menu. What is really happening.

(email me the details of why you want to get to safe mode in the first place and I will try for a better answer. Sometimes once you are in safe mode you can use SFC (system file checker) to fix it, but then again that usually means you need your install disks. If you dont have XP CD's you have a bone to pick with whomever you got the computer from that is called software piracy if they installed it but did not give you the disks. Some have restore disks but that means whiping the system be careful)

Do a Search for extensions.ini

that 's dot i n i .ini Dot Eye en eye

Look at nsExtensionManager.just as it appears that removing the entries in
extensions.ini or removing the extensions.ini file itself when starting in
safe-mode will fix this

A quick test where I remove the extensions.ini in
the code for safe-mode does in fact start Firefox with the extensions disabled.

The file is then auto-generated again when starting up normally. I am not sure
of the methodology that was intended to accomplish safe-mode now that the
chrome.manifest files are being used and though it does appear to solve this bug
there may be other ramifications.

If you can not boot in safe or normal mode and you have no boot disks, then about your only alternative is to take it to a repair shop. I would stay away from the national services that drive around in little bugs and take it to a local shop that will treat you right. I would think about $60 bucks to get it working again if no parts are needed.
